Sustainable Horticulture, Landscaping & Gardener Jobs

Position: Lead Hand
Company: Living Harmony Landscapes

Living Harmony Landscapes provides professional horticultural services to clients across Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula. Our work is driven by a passion for plants and a commitment to employing sustainable gardening practices that aim to replicate natural systems. We primarily provide garden maintenance and clean-up services to a loyal base of clients, while also offering design and installation work, as well as consultations and personalized garden coaching.

We are looking to grow our team this year and are currently hiring for a full-time (40 hours/week) Lead Hand position at Living Harmony.

In addition to performing regular maintenance and installation work, this role involves providing ongoing supervision and mentorship to other staff, as well as assisting Olivia (Company Owner) in administrative tasks, such as scheduling and managing client relationships, as well as hiring and training new staff. We aim to develop this role over time, with opportunities to explore estimating, design, and business development alongside Olivia.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Shares our love and excitement for the work we do.
  • Holds a minimum of two seasons of full-time experience in the landscape maintenance industry.
  • Holds a minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory role at a landscaping company.
  • Already possess a solid foundation of horticulture knowledge, such as the ability to identify plants, understand basic soil science and plant health concepts, and assess a property to prioritize work appropriately. This also means an ability to train other crew members and educate clients.
  • Holds a class 5 valid driver’s licence and is willing to learn to drive with a trailer and standard transmission if not already trained.
  • Has demonstrated leadership skills with a desire for continuous improvement.
  • Possesses the capacity to take responsibility for personal learning and learn through working with others.
  • Understands varying client expectations and delivers services to meet them effectively.
  • Possesses the grit to work in all weather conditions and will welcome the challenge of regular physical work.
  • Is motivated to work effectively in small groups or alone.
  • Possesses excellent time management skills, is efficiency-minded, and has an eye for detail.
  • Is committed to cultivating a healthy team culture.
  • Values and practices good communication skills with management and co-workers, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Can practice good self-care when working outdoors.

We want to work with you to develop the career you are looking for. We offer the following compensation and professional development opportunities to our staff:

  • $31.00-$35.00/hour depending on experience
    • Opportunities for bonus and overtime pay
  • Extended health care following the 3-month probationary period.
  • Accountability style learning opportunities.
  • Potential Landscape Horticulture Apprenticeship sponsorship as our relationship develops.
  • Partial tuition payments for apprenticeship and other industry-related courses.

"As the owner and operator, I feel fortunate to be immersed in two passions through Living Harmony: horticulture and business. I love providing my fellow plant nerds with the opportunity to live their passion while I handle the business aspect!”
