Position: Arts and Nature Camp Counselor – Otters Program (Ages 3–6)

Housing / On-Site Accommodation: For applicants coming from out of town, a tiny house on-site is available for the duration of your contract.

  • Hours: 8:45 AM – 4:15 PM, Monday to Friday

About the Role:

Les Arterres is seeking warm, imaginative, and grounded individuals to join our team as Camp Counselors for the Otters Program—a nature-based summer camp for children aged 3 to 6 years old. Over seven creative and playful weeks, you'll guide young children in exploring the natural world through artistic expression, storytelling, sensory play, and gentle adventure.

If you're passionate about children, inspired by the natural world, and bring a love for the arts—be it visual, dramatic, musical, or movement-based—we invite you to co-create a magical and meaningful summer with us.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide a small group of young children through daily nature and arts-based programming
  • Maintain a nurturing, safe, and imaginative environment tailored to early childhood development
  • Facilitate activities that include outdoor exploration, creative projects, songs, stories, and play
  • Support emotional regulation, positive social interactions, and respectful conflict resolution
  • Collaborate closely with co-staff to ensure a joyful and well-supported camp experience
  • Communicate respectfully with families, leadership, and fellow team members
  • Uphold health, safety, and inclusion practices at all times.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification (valid through August 2025)
  • Experience working with young children, ideally in early childhood, camp, or nature education settings
  • Passion or experience in at least one of the arts disciplines (e.g., music, drama, painting, crafts, movement)
  • Comfort working outdoors in all weather and supporting hands-on, nature-based experiences
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Age 18+ and legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Kindness, flexibility, and a deep respect for children

Assets:

  • Training or background in early childhood education, arts education, or outdoor learning
  • Skills in group facilitation, storytelling, singing, or puppetry
  • Bilingual (English/French) communication skills are a plus
  • Familiarity with Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, or forest school principles
