SCIENCE COMMUNICATIONS

Position: Communications Consultant 2024
Organization: Salmon Coast

Location: Echo Bay, BC (accommodation provided)
Housing: On-site housing is provided

Term: two month contract
Eligibility: age 30 & under (see below)

Salmon Coast Society is a charitable conservation organization and hub for coastal research located in Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis territory, in the Broughton Archipelago, near Echo Bay. Salmon Coast supports research and public education to protect and celebrate the wildlife, ecosystems and communities that make the Broughton Archipelago so precious.

The position may include:

  • Contributing to social media management and communication strategy development;
  • Graphic design and writing for newsletter, reports and promotional materials;
  • Supporting our brand development/refresh;
  • Assisting with outreach materials and interpretative programs;
  • Contributing to website management and fundraising;
  • Helping to create opportunities for connection and shared learning at the station and throughout the greater community;
  • Assisting around the station with various other tasks on an as-needed basis (fieldwork, maintenance, etc.).

An ideal candidate would have:

  • Experience communicating scientific information to multiple audiences;
  • Experience with graphic design and/or visual communication tools;
  • Experience with social media strategy and management (Instagram, Facebook, X)
  • Experience with website (Wordpress) management
  • Interest in supporting indigenous sovereignty, decolonization and reconciliation;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team;
  • Experience and/or comfort with living in communal situations;
  • Other skills/interests that complement the needs of the station (photography, gardening, education/outreach experience, basic maintenance skills etc).

Terms: This a two month contract starting between May 27 - June 10 $2800-3200/month for 30-35 hrs/wk depending on experience. Communal housing and dinners are provided.

This position may qualify for a wage subsidy. When applying, please indicate if you are or are not:
