What We Can Achieve Together:

The Conservation Operations Specialist, Indigenous Stewardship (2-year term) will be a key member of our Conservation Department supporting the Capacity Strengthening for Indigenous Stewardship Team (70%) and Northern Team (30%). They will bring project management, budget management, communication skills, and operations experience to strengthen the team and support the implementation of the program’s strategic priorities. They will ensure that staff (as well as contractors and partners) are working as effectively and collaboratively as possible, while efficiently responding to other organizational requests. They will report to the Indigenous Stewardship Director and be a member of the Standards, Processes and Operations Team (SPOT), which contributes to organizational excellence and consistency in administrative practices across the organization. The Conservation Operations Specialist, Indigenous Stewardship will be passionate and committed to supporting Indigenous-led and Northern conservation work.

Roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Under the direction of their manager, lead the collaboration and coordination of the Strategy and program teams, including members of cross functional teams. This will include scheduling meetings, setting agendas, facilitating meetings, taking notes, tracking action items, and ensuring follow-up
  • Supporting the development of work plans (identifying key milestones and timelines) and tracking and reporting on their progress
  • Supporting the annual budgeting process, and tracking budget and spending throughout the fiscal year to identify issues and assist in responding to changes
  • Managing the drafting, development and payment of all grants, contracts and agreements, and working with Grants Specialist and legal staff on approval processes
  • Managing annual business rhythms, including quarterly and annual strategy reviews and reporting to the Board and Leadership Team
  • Tracking progress and collecting relevant information for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks, including documenting learnings and ensuring lessons learned are discussed and applied
  • Maintaining and organizing digital files as per organization standards
  • Ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/ government) requirements, including identifying and communicating program risks and contingencies
  • Coordinating information sharing with the Communications and Philanthropy Teams to ensure cross-programmatic objectives and reporting needs are met
  • Collaborating with other Program Operations Specialists across Nature United, including implementing processes and procedures as directed by the Leadership Team and Deputy Director
  • Providing support for internal and external research
  • Contributing to the implementation of Nature United’s Indigenous Right Relations Strategy
  • Supporting advancement of key projects, as needed

What You’ll Bring:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience or equivalent combination
  • Project management experience
  • Experience coordinating teams and facilitating communications with a wide range of people
  • Experience designing, coordinating and implementing administrative processes
  • Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading
  • Experience synthesizing information and generating reports
  • Experience organizing time and managing diverse activities to meet deadlines

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience coordinating internal and external meetings and events
  • Knowledge of budgets and financial reporting
  • Experience with adaptive management and monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Familiarity or experience with project management software (e.g. Smartsheet, Microsoft Teams)
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities/organizations and/or knowledge of current and historic context of Indigenous peoples in Canada

Salary Information:

The estimated starting salary for this position is dependent on experience, qualifications and location.

  • Salary range in Canada is $75,000 – $80,000 CAD annually
