Position: Forest School Educator
School: Edmonton Forest School Society
Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Edmonton Forest School Society (EFSS) is looking for passionate, self-motivated, nature-loving educators to join our team for part time AND/OR full time work in the 2025-26 school year, with the possibility to begin onboarding and training in June 2025.

EFSS offers child led, play-based programs where children can build a meaningful connection with the land. Programs currently operate out of Gold Bar, Big Bear, and Kinsmen Parks and are outdoors in all weather conditions.

Forest School Educators will be responsible for co-facilitating programs for children ages 3-10. Applicants with either full time or part time availability are invited to apply.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Education, Early Childhood Education

or experience commensurate with those.

  • Clear criminal record check
  • Clear vulnerable sector check
  • Current First Aid
  • Physically fit, able to dig, climb, hike and carry supplies
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Provide own transportation to and from programs

Desired Qualifications:

  • Forest Practitioner Certification
  • Experience working with children ages 3-10 in outdoor programs

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with coworker to plan and deliver dynamic Forest School programs (play-based, all-weather, all-outdoor programs);
  • Prepare learning materials and spaces;
  • Maintain program tools and equipment;
  • Support the development and maintenance of risk assessments for Forest School activities;
  • Supervise children participating in the Forest School programs at all times;
  • Ensure the safety of all children including, but not limited to, forest play, hiking, climbing trees or while in close proximity to such things as standing water, streams and other terrain;
  • Comply with all AHS health and safety guidance for outdoor preschools and recreation programs;
  • Promote and comply with all policies set out in the Educator Handbook & Parent Handbook;
  • Attend and participate in monthly educator professional development;
  • Market and promote EFSS programs;
  • Make recommendations for EFSS programming;
  • Share ideas and insights on program improvement; and
  • Carry out other duties as required by the Directors and EFSS Board.

Wage is $21/Hour (June 2025) and $22/Hour (September 2025-June 2026).
