Position: Community Program Coordinator
Organization: The Riverwood Conservancy
Location: Mississauga, Ontario

The Riverwood Conservancy (TRC) is a volunteer-based charity at Riverwood — a 150-acre, urban nature preserve situated on the shores of the Credit River in Mississauga.

TRC provides programs to the community in nature and environmental education, conservation, and gardening.

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Community Program Coordinator coordinates TRC’s public education platform, Discovery @ Riverwood. Creating and delivering programs, and recruiting diverse and interesting speakers, the Community Program Coordinator works closely with a team to plan and facilitate public programming throughout the year on a broad range of seasonal subjects, including nature, gardening, conservation, and more.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Discovery @ Riverwood, TRC’s public education program, including planning events, contacting speakers, and delivering public programs, both in-person and virtually.
    • In consultation with the Director of Programs, identify and pursue areas of programming that support TRC’s Strategic Directions plan and mission, including health and wellness, climate change, diversity and inclusion, and lifelong learning.
    • Ensure sustainable program model by coordinating fee-based courses and programming.
    • Work with diverse contacts for public programming, in order to ensure a diverse range of speakers and topics.
    • Support coordination of indigenous programming at Riverwood.
    • Work with the Marketing Specialist to promote all public programs.
    • Support the coordination and training of volunteers to lead and assist with public programs and provide administrative assistance.
    • Document all program statistics and spending, and keep accurate records of all public programs occurring at Riverwood.
  • Lead and supervise Trail Ambassador summer staff position in coordinating the Trail Ambassador program, to engage the public at Riverwood.

  • Pursue project and programming initiatives that align with a sustainable fundraising plan for The Riverwood Conservancy.
  • Support and facilitate various programs in conservation, gardening, and education, as schedule allows.
  • Support School programs occasionally on an as-needed basis.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Outdoor Education, Biology, Environment, or related field.
  • Experience with creating and delivering public programs.
  • Experience with outdoor education programs for a diverse range of participants.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience and comfortability working with a range of diverse participants, from children to older adults.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfortability with public speaking.
  • High energy, charismatic, strong social skills.
  • Practical knowledge of local flora/fauna.
  • Collaborative and works well in a team setting.
  • Flexible, adaptive, and excited to learn.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • First Aid and CPR level C is a requirement for the position.
  • Driver’s license and mode of transportation is an asset.

Working Environment and Sensory Demands:

  • Outdoor Environment: The position requires the ability to safely lead participants over uneven and hilly terrain, and under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Indoor Environment: Typical office and office equipment, shared work space and artificial lighting.
  • Lengthy periods of standing/walking (3 hours or more) during events and program activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (16kg).
  • Proficiency with operation of various equipment, including computers and office devices (photocopier, telephone, etc.).
  • Proficiency with typical software – Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Sharepoint, and similar.

Start date is expected to be July 7th, 2025. This position is full-time at 37.5 hours per week. Salary expectation would be between $52,500 and $60,000. Office hours are 8:30am to 4:00pm. However, work hours for this position are variable and after-hours and weekend work is expected.
