Position: Site Coordinator – Spiral Garden

Program Summary

The successful candidate will be required to work during the period of June to September, 2025.

The Spiral Garden is an integrated art/garden/play program for children and youth ages 6-18 yrs old, with physical disabilities and developmental delays. Lead by professional Artists and Musicians, participants will interact and play through music, visual art, movement, drama, gardening and other arts activities. CSAs support clients who require one to one facilitation so they can have a safe, successful and fun experience in Spiral Garden. Nursing support provides care for medical interventions.

Position Summary

The Site Coordinator oversees the daily maintenance of the site, supervises program volunteers and leads group transition indoors for weather events. They work closely with the Program and Care Coordinators and Nurse to ensure program goals are met in a timely and safe manner. They facilitate client engagement in a check-in capacity, to support clients not paired with a staff or volunteer, as needed. They are a point person for family communication on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor and supervise program volunteers, assigning duties, daily supervision and regular evaluation and support.
  • Provide leadership to the volunteers to support the needs of the program participants, program staff and care team staff.
  • Monitor the safety and practical aspects of the day to day operation of the Spiral Garden site including: weather tracking, water-walks, group transition indoors for weather events (e.g. excessive heat or rain/lightning)
  • Support preparation and set up outdoor program area/site including building/repairing outdoor structures/furniture
  • assistance with large scale garden projects (eg. digging compost piles, building compost bins, material moving, etc)
  • Working with the Care Team Coordinator, be aware of and address the needs of the participants
  • Support de-escalation of clients with team as necessary
  • Work collaboratively with the Care Team Coordinator to create and supervise daily schedules for children, staff and volunteers
  • Participate in daily staff meetings communicating any site and/or volunteer issues to the larger team.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to provide a safe, stimulating experience for all participants, volunteers and staff members.
  • May be required to work longer days (up to 44 hrs per week) including early morning arrival

Qualifications

  • Outdoor and Adventure Education Diploma or Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with creative arts (music, art, drama, music) facilitation and participation preferred
  • Previous experience working with volunteers, providing direction, support and evaluation
  • Previous experience in an outdoor camp/program facility, including preparing/set-up of programming and supervision of programming is required
  • Previous work experience with children and youth with physical disabilities, developmental delay, neurodevelopmental disabilities and/or who are neurodivergent is required
  • Demonstrated understanding and training in supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to participate in activities
  • Experience with creative arts (music, art, drama, music) facilitation and participation preferred
  • Building/carpentry skills are an asset
  • Ability to maintain awareness of day to day duties while providing supervision and trouble-shooting support as needed
  • Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility and ability to multi-task when required
  • Sensitivity to the needs of program participants and their families
  • Ability to anticipate concerns and problem solve effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and to quickly assess and respond to participant support needs
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to efficiently manage working hours
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction to work independently at times
  • Ability to take direction and receive feedback, and to work in collaboration with staff/clients/families
  • Excellent verbal communication skills as they relate to participants, families and other team members
  • Proficient written communication skills to write, understand, and effectively act on written materials from participants, families, and members of the staff team
  • WHIMIS and/or Health and Safety Certification preferred
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification or equivalent an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C preferred
