Position: Project Manager, Co-Governance
Organization: Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources
Location: remote, anywhere in Canada

Summary

The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) is seeking a Project Manager to join our team to support CIER’s Collaborative Leadership Initiative (CLI) project. The CLI is a collaborative governance initiative that brings together elected Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders to build relationships, strengthen trust, and co-develop solutions to shared water challenges. The successful candidate will co-lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of CLI project activities. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex, multi-partner settings, with strong project management skills, excellent communication and facilitation skills, and a passion for building relationships and fostering collaboration across jurisdictions and worldviews. The Project Manager will be responsible for developing workplans and timelines, facilitating meetings, building strong relationships with partners, ensuring deliverables are met, and coordinating project logistics. As an organization, we support and work towards reconciliation with Indigenous Nations and non-Indigenous allies. We are a team of like-minded individuals who strive to build environmental capacity in and with Indigenous community partners. This position may include travelling to remote communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and day-to-day management of CLI project activities.
  • Work closely with project staff and leadership to develop workplans and timelines.
  • Facilitate meetings, including planning agendas, preparing materials, and managing follow-up actions.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, reports, and funding deliverables.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure that milestones and deliverables are achieved on time and within scope.
  • Draft communications, reports, and presentations for various audiences.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the CLI project and help identify opportunities for growth, impact, and knowledge sharing.
  • Facilitate communication among team members and stakeholders to ensure project alignment.
  • Support other project staff and contractors as needed.

Operational Requirements

  • CIER is a virtual organization. The successful candidate must have access to a secure and reliable internet connection and a computer with fully functional WIFI capability.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Strong understanding of and experience working with Indigenous histories, environmental issues, policies, and laws, including addressing the challenges Indigenous communities commonly face
  • Experience working at the interface of Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, specifically the ability to understand how different government, knowledges, and worldviews can work together
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal – the ability to think, write and speak clearly is a strong asset
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience developing and monitoring workplans, timelines, and budgets
  • Attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, virtual team environment
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Friendly, optimistic attitude and ability to work collaboratively
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in social or physical science (public policy, law, anthropology, economics, biology, ecology, etc.) A combination of post-secondary education or training and relevant work experience may be considered if the experience is directly relevant to the scope of this position.

Nice to Have

  • Fluency in Indigenous language(s) and/or French
  • Experience working in a virtual office
