Media and Communications Coordinator

Position: Coordinator, Media and Communications

Position Overview

Efficiency Canada is seeking a skilled communicator to lead media outreach and editorial work that helps drive energy efficiency solutions across Canada. As our Coordinator, Media and Communications, you will lead media outreach and editorial efforts that connect policymakers, advocates, and the public with practical climate solutions.

You’ll write, edit and pitch op-eds, coordinate media requests, edit high-impact reports, policy briefs and blogs, and support messaging strategy. If you’re a strong writer with a passion for policy communications and climate solutions — and you know how to tailor messages for different audiences — we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Secure and expand media coverage of Efficiency Canada and its initiatives.
  • Draft, edit and pitch press releases, op-eds, and media advisories.
  • Develop and maintain key message documents.
  • Monitor news coverage and identify timely media opportunities.
  • Support media preparation and training for spokespeople.
  • Edit and proofread blogs, reports, briefs, and web content for clarity, accuracy, and audience.
  • Compile, edit and send the Efficiency Canada newsletter and other key email communications.
  • Transform complex policy ideas into accessible, engaging content tailored to target audiences.
  • Contribute to the planning and evaluation of communications strategies and campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1–3 years in journalism, public relations, communications, or similar writing-focused roles.
  • Writing & editing: A portfolio of written work that demonstrates strong editorial judgment and clarity. Strong familiarity with Canadian Press (CP) style.
  • Media relations: Experience working with or pitching to journalists. Bonus if you’ve used media monitoring tools like MuckRack.
  • Content versatility: Comfortable writing for different platforms and tailoring messages to specific audiences (e.g. policymakers, contractors, or advocates).
  • Organizational skills: Able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-moving remote work environment.

Assets (Not Required)

  • Experience using NationBuilder, MuckRack, or similar email and media tools.
  • Comfort supporting media training or preparing team members for interviews.
  • Experience managing an editorial calendar or coordinating publishing timelines.
  • Bilingualism in French and English.

Reporting Structure

The Coordinator, Media and Communications will report to the Director of Communications.

Location

The location of this role is remote. Preference will be given to residents of Ontario.
