Hiring: Cidermaking & Value-added Processing Assistant

Salt Spring Apple Company is a family-run certified organic orchard of more than 3,500 apple trees on Salt Spring Island, B.C. In addition to managing the orchard, we make organic cider and other value-added products using our apples. We sell all of these products at Salt Spring Island’s farmers markets as well as from our on-farm shop and lounge/tasting room.

We’re looking for an employee to work with us starting immediately and continuing for at least two months, with the potential for longer term employment.

We have applied for government funding for this position, so it is limited to applicants aged 15 to 30. The program particularly encourages applicants who are indigenous, living with a disability, racialized, recent newcomers to Canada, 2SLGBTQI+, living in a low-income household or were early leavers of high school.

CIDERMAKING and VALUE-ADDED PROCESSING ASSISTANT

• Involves assisting with the production of cider and other value-added apple products
• This includes cider bottling in our fermentation room as well as kitchen work in our cidery lounge/tasting room
• The position also involves cleaning and maintaining our production facilities
• For part of the project, will also involve some work in our orchard and nursery
• While we don’t require directly-related experience, we do require a good attitude, hard work and a willingness to learn
• The person we hire must be able to do heavy physical work and be willing to work outside in all weather
• This position pays a salary of $1,725 biweekly based on five workdays each week (7.5 paid hours per workday @ $23/hr)

We may have accommodation available. If you are the successful candidate and choose to live in this worker accommodation, we will deduct rent from your salary on a bi-weekly basis.
