Organization: Ecotrust Canada

Start date: June 1, 2025 (or as soon as possible, no later than June 15, 2025)
Position status: Part-time, Deliverables-Based Contract
Location: Remote (must be based in British Columbia)

About the Indigenous Homelands Program

The Indigenous Homelands Program supports community members from remote First Nations to be able to return to and thrive on their homelands in ways that honour their social, cultural, and environmental well-being.

Position Summary

Ecotrust Canada’s Indigenous Homelands Program is seeking a creative and collaborative Graphic Designer to support the visual development of the Indigenous Housing and Homelands Toolkit, as well as two related projects: Routes to Roots and Democratizing Knowledge. The successful candidate will work with our team and First Nations partners to co-create visual assets that are accessible, engaging, and culturally respectful.

This contract role will contribute directly to our broader goals of making complex housing, governance, and land tenure knowledge more accessible and engaging for Indigenous communities across BC and beyond.

Scope of Work

The Scope of Work will be split into two units of work:

  • Stage One will be completed from June 1 – June 30, 2025, and will include the following:
    • Infographic Design:
      • Create approximately 3 visually compelling and easy-to-understand infographics for each of 5 toolkit modules (approx. 15 total), suitable for digital and print distribution in community settings.
  • Stage Two will be completed from July 15, 2025 – November 30, 2026, and will include the following:
    • Digital Map Development:
      • Design a user-friendly, visually intuitive map interface to guide users through the toolkit by theme or module.
    • Infographic Design:
      • Create approximately 3 visually compelling and easy-to-understand infographics for more toolkit modules – approximately 3 more modules (thus, approx. 9-10 infographics total), suitable for digital and print distribution in community settings.
    • Website Design Support:
      • Support the visual layout and storytelling of two toolkits – one on Housing & Homelands Governance, another on Circular Economies — through their web presence on the Wix platform, ensuring accessibility, clarity, and alignment with Indigenous values and aesthetic preferences. Act as the lead designer for the platforms, but work collaboratively with the Indigenous Homelands team and especially with the Indigenous Education Specialist to create an interactive learning platform.
    • Workshop Support:
      • Create any design material needed (digital and/or print) for workshops and educational workbooks that will accompany the ~7 toolkit modules.
    • Collaborative Process:
      • Participate in collaborative design reviews with the Ecotrust Canada team and Indigenous advisors to ensure visuals are accurate, culturally relevant, and accessible for diverse audiences.
