FUNDRAISING DEVELOPMENT

Position: Fundraising & Development Manager
Organization: Stanley Park Ecology Society
Location: Vancouver, BC

  • Full time 37.5 hrs/week (permanent)
  • Estimated start date: ASAP
  • Starting salary range: $55,000 – $63,648
  • Benefits: Extended benefits (after 6 months) and RRSP program (available after 1 year)

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fundraising & Development Manager holds a key function in meeting annual fundraising targets, writing compelling grant applications, leading fundraising opportunities, attracting and maintaining a body of funders, donors, sponsors, members and partners in order to raise the funds required to meet the Society’s specific annual operating and program goals. The Fundraising & Development Manager also oversees communications such as newsletters, website, media and social media platforms. This position works closely with the Executive Director in the planning and development of strategies and initiatives to meet the financial targets for the Society. The Fundraising & Development Manager has two direct reports who support development, marketing and communications initiatives.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising

  • Responsible for the funder engagement cycle and building relationships with key funders including: sourcing, writing and submitting grants, grant reports, letters of inquiry and support, sponsorship packages and case for support documents within deadlines;
  • Effectively keep track of relevant funding deliverables, report deadlines, and defined outcomes for each new grant received;
  • Maintains an accurate database on interactions with granters, sponsors, donors, members and funders in Salesforce CRM;
  • Maintains an accurate quarterly plan for grant submissions, develops letters of support, writes content, ensures deadlines are met;
  • Works closely with the Executive Director and departmental Managers on grants, grant content, budgets and funding to support departmental programs;
  • Works closely with the Executive Director and Marketing Communications Development Committee on governance materials, capital campaigns and other relevant funding directions;
  • Communicates accomplishments of existing programs to funders through reports and writes acknowledgment letters as needed;
  • Works with Managers and Executive Director on fundraising projects/campaigns, briefs, and events, including drafting on-line content, social media posts, storytelling and other relevant activities.

Donor Stewardship

  • Cultivates, acquires, and engages donors. Continually reviews donor retention and develops strategies to increase the donor database and secure monthly, corporate and major donors;
  • Creates and oversees annual donor campaigns – winter/summer
  • Appeals to various donor levels using segmented lists from Salesforce through well-developed engagement plans, donor campaigns, events and recognition.

Member Stewardship

  • Oversees membership program including securing members and engaging members through regular communication, and member events

Communications

  • Oversees SPES communications including social media strategy, newsletters, website management/ writing, press releases and video;
  • Manages and monitors the organizational communication plan;
  • Review/edits department communications;
  • Oversees the development of the annual report;
  • Oversees photography image database and ensures use in alignment with SPES image practices and guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 2+ years’ experience in non-profit development and fundraising, or equivalent experience and education;
  • Understanding of local ecology and environmental sciences is a strong asset;
  • Proven track record of successfully securing gifts, grants, and sponsorships;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse partners;
  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Canva, InDesign and CRMs, ideally Salesforce;
  • Experience overseeing or delivering fundraising events;
  • Strong written communication skills, including grant writing, donor appeals, and reports;
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term fundraising plans;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, delegate, and meet deadlines;
  • Experience with communications, digital marketing, and social media;
  • Supportive of a client-centered work environment;
  • Can bring a critical perspective to fundraising to further our decolonization and equity goals.
