The Organization: NSRJ is a registered charity that has been responding to harm, conflict, and crime on the North Shore since 1997. Using principles of restorative justice (RJ), NSRJ works to strengthen our communities by providing case facilitation, circle processes, community dialogue, youth engagement programs, and training. NSRJ is one of the largest community-based RJ organization in British Columbia. Current programs include: the Restorative Response Program (RRP) which provides RJ facilitation as an alternative to the criminal court process, Circles in Schools which provides weekly whole classroom facilitation with elementary and secondary students as well as training to teachers, the Restorative Engagement in Schools program which provides RJ facilitation in response to complex instances of harm in schools, and professional development workshops offered to schools and organizations.

The Role: We are seeking an Executive Director to join our team within a strong value-based organization. The ideal candidate will bring previous experience from an executive role, exemplifying a proven ability to align and lead teams from a place of inspiration, collaboration, inclusion, and empowerment along with strong business acumen. This position requires a high level of team collaboration and transparency, and also requires significant autonomy and ability to move forward effectively on decisions.

The ED will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's operations and for developing a growth model to ensure staff retention, financial sustainability, governance excellence, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership, human resources and governance experience as well as excellent strategic thinking skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Organizational Management & Program Oversight:

• Oversee daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction for program strategies and efficiencies, organizational compliance, and quality assurance.
• Identify and address staffing requirements for efficient operations, and maintain a strong work culture that attracts and retains people while driving the organization's mission.
• Develop and manage employee policies and processes that support an inclusive, equitable, collaborative, and positive work environment.
• Implement internal systems, policies, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency, effectiveness, and impact.
• Support the development of policies that promote justice, equity, diversity, , accessibility, and inclusion within the organization's operation, programs, and decision-making processes.
• Ensure NSRJ is operating in accordance with all applicable local, provincial and federal laws and regulations that govern non-profit organizations.

2. Financial Leadership & Fundraising:

• Oversee the organization's financial health, including budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation, to ensure responsible and transparent fiscal management.
• Manage daily financial activities and work collaboratively with the Board Treasurer and bookkeeper.
• Meet annual fundraising goals by identifying and developing new funding opportunities with particular attention to multi-year grants, individual major gifts, corporate sponsorship, and developing a strong monthly donor base.
• Manage all aspects of grants including drafting and submitting applications, reporting, and ensuring compliance with requirements.

3. Organizational Growth & Development:

• Consult and collaborate regularly with key stakeholders including police/ RCMP, First Nations, school districts and administration, government, and other service providers to ensure NSRJ's programs are meeting the needs of the communities through measurable outcomes.
• Develop a strong communications plan to increase public awareness and effectively communicate the organization’s mission and fundraising needs to the public.
• Build new relationships with diverse stakeholders and agencies that support equity seeking groups.
• Collaborate with board, staff, and relevant stakeholders to develop, implement, and execute a Strategic Plan
• Be considerate of emerging trends within the North Shore community and more broadly within the restorative justice community.

4. Justice, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion:

• Champion a culture of equity and inclusion throughout NSRJ, serving as an advocate and role model.
• Ensure that equity is embedded into all hiring, onboarding and training activities.
• Support the development of policies that promote justice, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion within the organization's operation, programs, and decision-making processes.
• In collaboration with staff, coordinate relevant training and education to raise awareness and enhance staff and volunteers' understanding of equity and anti-oppression as it relates to the criminal punishment and education systems and our work in restorative justice.
• Foster relationships with diverse communities and stakeholders to ensure NSRJ's work is responsive to their unique needs.

Beyond these primary responsibilities, others may be required from time-to-time in response to the organization’s emerging needs.

Qualifications*:

• A preference will be given to someone with five or more years of experience in a senior leadership capacity in community justice, not-for-profit or social services sectors. We also welcome applicants with other equivalent experience that lends itself well to the leadership of a medium-sized non-profit.
• A leadership style that models and maintains a collaborative values-based work environment that inspires staff, board, and volunteers and fosters learning and professional growth
• Demonstrated experience in organizational leadership, human resources management, financial management, operations, stakeholder, volunteer, and community engagement, and collaboration with the board of directors.
• Proven track record of fundraising and revenue stream generation, including developing strategic partnerships.
• An understanding of anti-oppression, anti-racism, Indigenous/settler relationship-building, disability justice, trauma-informed and other justice, diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
• Possess knowledge of decolonization logics and practices, particularly in the context of state-based justice and education systems.
• Familiarity with the values, processes and challenges of Restorative and/or Transformative Justice, particularly in dynamic community contexts.

• Experience working adjacent to law enforcement in some capacity.
• Compelling verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.

Additional Requirements

• The ability to successfully complete police criminal record checks and RCMP clearance; NSRJ will support this process in trauma-informed ways for people with lived experience in the criminal punishment system.
• Travel to North Vancouver and/or West Vancouver
• Availability to attend evening meetings (mostly remote), including monthly board meetings, committee meetings, and community events

Salary and Benefits:

• Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000 per year commensurate with qualifications and experience
• Access to extended health benefits
• 10 paid sick days per year
• 3 weeks vacations per year plus additional paid days off during office-wide closure (end of year Dec 24-Jan 1)
• 11 statutory holidays plus 3 paid flex days/year
• Standard 5-day work week, can accommodate flexible hours and hybrid work (3 days/week onsite)
