Position Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Jijuktu’kwejk Watershed Alliance’s programs and projects in support of its mission to restore, protect, and steward the Cornwallis River watershed. This role includes managing field operations, engaging with community members and partners, and supporting organizational development through communication, outreach, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Program & Project Coordination

  • Coordinate and implement watershed restoration and monitoring projects, including fieldwork such as water quality sampling, fish habitat assessments, and culvert evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain project work plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Supervise and support seasonal field staff and volunteers during project delivery.
  • Ensure health and safety protocols are followed during all activities.

Community Engagement & Education

  • Plan and promote community events, workshops, and outreach initiatives to increase public awareness of watershed issues.
  • Foster relationships with landowners, farmers, partner organizations, schools, and municipal/government representatives.
  • Coordinate engagement efforts in key areas such as the Canard River sub-watershed.

Communications & Marketing

  • Manage the organization’s social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram), email newsletters, and website updates.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote events, highlight restoration work, and encourage stewardship.
  • Create and distribute educational and promotional materials aligned with the organization’s goals and audience.

Organizational Support

  • Assist in grant writing, fundraising, and reporting to funders.
  • Maintain program records, including data entry, analysis, and reporting.
  • Support the Board of Directors with administrative tasks, strategic planning, and capacity building.
  • Participate in field activities as needed by the field crew

Qualifications:

  • Background in environmental science, biology, geography, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Familiarity with the Jijuktu'kwejk Watershed is an asset.
  • Experience in project management, fieldwork, and community engagement.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with Nova Scotia’s watershed issues, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety practices.
  • Proficiency in social media, Google Drive, and GIS or mapping tools (an asset).
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (required for field travel).

Salary and Hours:

The Employer shall remunerate the Operations Manager for their services under this agreement at $25.50 / hour for a 35 hour work week (average), including 4% vacation pay. The Manager will track their hours and submit to the supervisor weekly. The Manager will work remotely on their own computer and phone to complete the work but will be compensated $100 / month towards home office expenses. Some hours may fall in the evening and weekends, especially those related to program facilitation. Salary shall be paid to the Employee on a biweekly basis in accordance with the policy of the Employer, as amended from time to time. The Employer agrees to deduct all requisite taxes and submit all payable deductions as required by law including, but not limited to employment insurance, income tax, and Canada Pension Plan.

Term:

This position shall commence on July 2 2025 and terminate on December 31 2025, with option to renew based on available funding. Starting in November, the supervisor may consider a reduced work week, if requested by the Manager and if funding allows. Contract renewal will be discussed in November for the term of January - May 2026.
