Contract Position

Position: Environmental Education Program Manager
Organization: GreenLearning Canada Foundation
Location: Virtual with some in-person and living in Greater Toronto, Edmonton or Calgary region (preferred)

GreenLearning is hiring a one-year contract Program Manager position to cover a parental leave based in either ON (Toronto region) or AB (Edmonton or Calgary). The Program Manager will ensure that GreenLearning’s education programs and educational modules are engaging and fun, meet the needs of both educators and learners, and incorporate best practices in 21st century and STEM education, and digital delivery.

The Program Manager’s main focus will be to build GreenLearning's innovative energy, climate change and green economy education programs, lead the development of our e-learning tools and resources, and nurture partnerships with partners (many other non-profits) and funders.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Program Director to develop, design and write new education modules, and update existing modules, on topics of energy, climate and green economy. Create interactive and engaging content for educational materials, that emphasize hands-on learning and 21st century skills
  • Design, author and edit complex e-learning, virtual and blended classroom curriculum & programs including but not limited to measurable learning objectives, group activities, discussions, case studies, role-plays, scenarios, simulations, audio scripts, progress checks, performance evaluations and knowledge assessments
  • Design traditional, nontraditional, interactive and multimedia learning solutions
  • Draw from a diverse background of design and learning techniques to define and sequence instructional content and strategies to optimize learning experiences.
  • Ensure educational modules and materials meet the needs of educators, including working with an advisory committee of educators and ensuring appropriate curriculum links
  • Play a key role in ensuring a diversity of voices are represented in all of GreenLearning's programs and materials, and that the organization’s programming is as inclusive and equitable as possible.
  • Work with the Programs team to develop professional development workshops based on our educational modules and materials and participate in workshop/webinars as necessary
  • Provide support to educators as they deliver the modules, in order to ensure maximum uptake and delivery by teachers through to the final evaluation of each learning experience
  • Work with partners as necessary in the development of educational modules that are being co-authored
  • Support the Engagement Manager as needed in attending conferences/special events focused on environment and sustainability education (occasional evening and weekend work may be required)
  • Field queries from educators and partners on youth engagement activities
  • Sit on external committees representing GreenLearning as required
  • Provide content for and/or provide feedback on marketing materials including GreenLearning’s newsletter, website and social media posts
  • Organize/audit materials for GreenLearning’s website
  • Review and assist in grant writing as necessary; assist with funder reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge in the areas of climate policy, circular economy, energy, social innovation/social enterprise
  • Proven experience developing youth-driven activities, programs, projects and initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience working with teachers and school boards, and an understanding of teacher's needs and the challenges they face in delivering curriculum
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use social media tools and software in a digital environment
  • Instructional design experience/skills is an asset
  • A post-secondary degree in a related field
  • A post-secondary degree in education is an asset
  • A demonstrated commitment to issues of sustainability
  • Compelling volunteer experiences
  • Ability to speak French is an asset

Location - Preference in Toronto region, Calgary or Edmonton
