About the Organization...

Be The Change Earth Alliance (BTCEA) is a bold, agile and creative charitable organization founded in 2005 with a mission to educate and empower youth, educators and community members to take personal and collective action for a just, sustainable, interconnected and thriving world. Our flagship program, Student Leadership for Change (SLC), is an online library of learning resources that enables teachers to engage their students in meaningful learning, reflective dialogue, critical thinking and action on climate, environmental and social justice topics. SLC engages thousands of students per year through the network of over 1,800 BC teachers who are registered for the program. The SLC holistic approach covers a full spectrum of ways participants can ‘be the change’ to address global issues, from individual, school and community actions to political advocacy. Beyond SLC, BTCEA provides various programs that educate and empower youth directly through facilitated workshops and hands-on mentorship.

BTCEA’s programs have been well received and in the past two years have reached more than 20,000 students. BTCEA has built trust and a strong reputation among teachers, administrators and school districts across BC over the past decade. This is an exciting organization which is building momentum towards transformative change within the BC education community.

This Job Is For You If You…

About the Job

The Education and Grants Coordinator will work collaboratively with other staff to co-lead educational programs, while supporting our fund development and justice, equity, decolonization, diversity and inclusion (JEDDI) work.

This is a highly collaborative, team-based role and work environment. This role will be split roughly equally between educational programming, and grant writing and fundraising. We are looking for a strong, passionate facilitator and writer who can deliver climate justice programming, and support with grant writing, fundraising and internal positive change at BTCEA. As a key member of a small, collaborative staff team, the incumbent will also work to support other BTCEA initiatives, which are considerably interwoven.

Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  • Managing logistics, scheduling, communication and outreach for workshops

  • Collaborating and coordinating with stakeholders to support the delivery of the project
  • Coordinating and providing mentorship to a series of youth teams
  • Designing and adapting student workshops
  • Delivering workshops to participating youth classrooms and groups, in person and via Zoom
  • Collaborating with other staff and volunteers to coordinate and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the initiatives
  • Helping ensure our programs centre equity and social justice, and integrate intersectional perspectives

The incumbent will also work closely with the Executive Director to research and acquire financial resources to support the organization’s ongoing and forthcoming work. Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  • Researching grants and other funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and governments
  • Designing project proposals and strategizing future programming based on grant opportunities
  • Writing and editing grant applications and letters of inquiry
  • Creating and reviewing project budgets
  • Monitoring and evaluating grant deliverables
  • Building and maintaining relationships with grantors, sponsors, and donors
  • Supporting the Executive Director with writing fundraising emails

The incumbent will also have the opportunity to engage with the organization’s anti-racism and JEDDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Decolonization, and Inclusion) work, including supporting internal meetings and helping to shape BTCEA’s organizational culture, practice, policy, and programs, in accordance with anti-racist and JEDDI principles.

In all the tasks above, the incumbent will be able to build on BTCEA’s existing work and will receive ample support from other BTCEA staff. The incumbents will not require a previous mastery of the role’s responsibilities to succeed; rather, we are looking for candidates with an interest or passion in this work who possess some of the key assets and qualifications below.
