As the Corporate Environmental Specialist, Residential, you will support The City's climate mitigation and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals by leading the design and implementation of programs, strategies and policies to reduce energy use and GHG emissions in the residential building sector. The position will develop and implement programs that support The City of Calgary's climate, housing and affordability strategies. Primary duties include:

  • Design and implement strategic programs, strategies, policies and pilots to support GHG reductions in the residential building sector. Programs will include residential building labelling, retrofit incentive programs, innovative financing programs and low carbon retrofit pilots.
  • Conduct project management of the full lifecycle of program development, including strategic program design and development, procurement, program implementation, program management and reporting.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for GHG emissions reductions in residential buildings on the Community Energy team.
  • Identify and analyze data to establish program benchmarks, key performance indicators and other climate-related metrics, and support annual accountability reporting.
  • Lead research, analysis, engagement and facilitation and oversee consultants.
  • Communicate information to a variety of audiences including speaking and briefing notes, technical reports, outreach, education and communications.
  • Build cross-corporate and external relationships to ensure collaboration.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Environment, Planning, Engineering, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in environmental program or climate mitigation program design and delivery or other relevant experience.
  • Experience in climate or energy efficiency program design and delivery, residential building design and performance, GHG quantification and analysis, and energy management is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with GIS, mapping tools and data modelling software is considered an asset.
  • Critical thinking, strategic planning, collaboration, and effective communication skills are essential.

Workstyle

This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Pay Grade 14 $51.84 – 69.28 per hour
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
