Youth Climate Corps British Columbia (YCCBC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth to lead the way in climate action. Our programs focus on wildfire mitigation, food sovereignty, ecological restoration, and other key environmental initiatives. Position Overview:

The Communications Coordinator will work collaboratively to support Youth Climate Corps BC's communication strategy. This role involves curating stories from programs across BC and creating compelling written and visual content that attracts, engages, and aligns with the organization's strategic goals, ultimately supporting provincial growth and generating brand awareness.

The Communications Coordinator will create and oversee content on Youth Climate Corps BC's social media platforms, website, newsletters, and other marketing campaigns. We encourage strategic thinking, brainstorming, and planning within the team. The ideal candidate must possess strong English writing skills and a solid understanding of climate action and digital communications.

This position requires effective communication skills to connect with colleagues and partners both remotely and in person. The role is remote, offering flexibility for self-directed work and scheduling. Mentorship and coaching are integral to our culture, with opportunities for both mentorship and being mentored.

Responsibilities for Communications Coordinator:

  • Assist the communications team in developing, managing, and optimizing a cross-platform editorial calendar to support various marketing campaigns and communication strategy objectives.
  • Produce and edit digital content, including written and visual content, to enhance Youth Climate Corps BC's credibility.
  • Create attractive graphic designs for various purposes, such as reports and diverse documents.
  • Publish and distribute content via newsletters, blog posts, press releases, social media posts, and specific campaigns.
  • Engage with our target audience on various social media platforms.
  • Outreach to press outlets, magazines, and influencers, and build strategic partnerships to enhance brand recognition.
  • Ensure that all created content is optimized for SEO.
  • Organize videos and photos, edit and approve stored images and videos for website use.
  • Conduct interviews with program partners and participants to gather information, photos, and data.
  • Support minor website changes for constant optimization (platform used: WIX).
  • Monitor social media analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communication campaigns and strategies, providing suggestions for ongoing improvement.

Qualifications for Communications Coordinator:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in managing social media platforms.
  • Experience in developing original written and visual content creation and optimization.
  • Ability to oversee and gather information for promoting stories.
  • Passion for writing and digital communications.
  • Knowledge of climate justice issues.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects based on priority.
  • Ability to work independently, including self-motivation and setting deadlines, while also contributing to a larger team.
  • Knowledge of LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Google Analytics, MailChimp, Wix, and Canva is a plus.
  • Experience with SEO Optimization.
  • Experience in graphic design.
  • Understanding of communications and marketing ethics and best practices.
  • Detail-oriented and motivated to learn upcoming trends.
