Position: Communication Coordinator
Organization: Alberta Environmental Network
Location: This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in Alberta

Employment Type: Part-time or Full-time, between 20 and 35 hours per week
Compensation: $58,000 annual salary based on a 35-hour work week.

About AEN

The Alberta Environmental Network (AEN) is a non-profit, non-partisan, politically-active membership organization dedicated to collaboratively preserving and protecting Alberta's environment. AEN works with various environmental, health & and community groups, as well as other allies, partners and a vibrant corps of volunteers to advance environmental sustainability, literacy, and advocacy.

Position Overview

The Communications Coordinator (Coordinator) will lead the development and implementation of communication strategies & tactics across AEN's diverse programs, campaigns and activities. The Coordinator, working closely with AEN staff, will oversee and manage traditional and social media content in addition to engagement with members, partners, volunteers, media and donors.

The ideal candidate has strong and wide-ranging communication skills, experience, knowledge and training. They have a passion for environmental advocacy and are creative, take initiative, seek to expand their skills and love to work with a vibrant team that is always challenging itself.

Responsibilities

The Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of communications strategies & plans that integrate, optimize and advance AEN’s programs, campaigns, activities and relationships to meet our organizational objectives. In collaboration with the AEN team, this work includes

  • Oversight, creation and dissemination of communications to AEN network members, volunteers, allies, partners, the public, media and donors. communications.
  • Writing, designing, and editing content for websites, newsletters, social media, info sheets, press releases and other communications.
  • Research, targeting and testing of communications for diverse AEN audience segments.
  • Monitoring, analysis and reporting of communications campaign performance.
  • Management and monitoring of AEN’s social media activity including posting on various platforms and engagement with followers.
  • Development and management of website content.
  • Strengthening network membership and partner engagement through strategic, creative and compelling initiatives.
  • Enhancement of volunteer recruitment and retention through effective communication strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong and wide-ranging communications skills, experience, knowledge and training.
  • Experienced in content creation and social media management.
  • Proficiency with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and email marketing tools.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Canva.
  • Critical thinker and quick learner.
  • Creative, strategic and resourceful.
  • Highly organized, efficient and adaptable.
  • Interested in continual learning and professional development.
  • Enjoys being challenged.
  • A team player who works effectively both independently and collaboratively with diverse people and groups.
  • A commitment to environmental sustainability and social justice.

Desired Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, psychology or a related field.
  • Experience working or volunteering for a non-profit organization or community group.
  • Experience in advocacy and external relations.
