BUILDING ENERGY / DECARBONIZATION

Position: Energy / Decarbonization Specialist
Company: FRESCo
Location: 100% remote work, but based in Metro Vancouver BC

Experience Level: Junior-Intermediate
Compensation Range: $65,000-$80,000

The Energy/Decarbonization Specialists will support FRESCo’s diverse building decarbonization projects and programs with a priority focus on fieldwork, energy, and feasibility assessments, communicating with clients and producing professional energy efficiency reports. This is a role for someone who has a strong initiative and who has a passion for making a difference in our communities through decarbonization and energy efficiency.

We are a boutique consulting firm focused on:

  • Providing decarbonization, energy, electrical and mechanical engineering services for the multi-unit residential, commercial, and institutional building sectors. Designing and delivering innovative pilot programs, such as the Rental Apartment Retrofit Accelerator (RARA) and the Climate Action Property Tax Exception Program.
  • Growing a multidisciplinary team to integrate the learnings from our research, program design and delivery, and energy/mechanical/electrical engineering to bring decarbonization projects into reality.

The Role and Responsibilities

  • Conduct energy and feasibility assessments (data collection on site and data analysis).
  • Conduct research and analysis on topics related to energy efficiency, electrification, and decarbonization.
  • Conduct technical analysis under the supervision of senior engineers/energy managers.
  • Communicate with clients, vendors, and contractors in person, via phone, and in writing.
  • Produce professional energy and feasibility assessment reports and other construction documents independently, and in collaboration with other team members.
  • Support other FRESCo projects related to energy efficiency/decarbonization.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Systems (e.g., BCIT diploma), or Engineering (mechanical or electrical), Energy Management (e.g., BCIT or similar) or other equivalent education or experience.
  • Experience, or capacity to develop experience quickly, with conducting energy assessments and/or feasibility studies in multi-family and/or commercial facilities including data collection and analysis and professional report generation.
  • Familiarity with building HVAC systems required
  • Familiarity with building electrical systems and building enclosure is an asset
  • Familiarity with building retrofit or construction projects, ideally in multi-unit residential and commercial buildings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, with intermediate + proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience developing tools to support energy analysis and reporting, including using python or software tools is an asset.
  • Energy modelling skills an asset (list software applications you are familiar with).

Who You Are:

  • Based in Metro Vancouver, BC or demonstrate concrete plan to relocate to this area.
  • Desire and ability to work from home full-time (i.e. have dedicated workspace).
  • Proactive self-starter with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. A team player, but also comfortable working independently.
  • Valid class five B.C. driver’s license. Own a vehicle, able and willing to travel for site visits (occasionally on multi-day trips).
  • Methodological approach to completing projects from start to finish within set timelines and excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues through teamwork, respect, and clear and effective communication.
  • Work well under pressure and know how to balance timeline expectations with quality results. Ability to assess and execute time-sensitive action items, shift focus between changing priorities, and demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
