Location: Windsor and Essex County, Ontario. Candidates from anywhere in Canada may apply.  Board meetings are virtual, though there are some non-mandatory in person events.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR NATURAL PATHWAYS LEARNING CENTRE

Natural Pathways Learning Centre is an Ontario non-profit charitable organization that has been offering Forest and Nature School programs to Windsor and Essex County community since 2015. We provide innovative, inspired and transformational outdoor experiences for children through play and exploration, supporting their potential and passion for building deeper relationships with themselves, others and our natural world.

Position Title: Member of the Board of Directors

Length of Term: Minimum 1 year and ongoing

Purpose:

Natural Pathways Learning Centre is actively seeking board members to provide leadership, governance, decision-making and support to matters pertaining to the program development and operations of Natural Pathways Learning Centre.

The board of directors is legally and ethically responsible for all the activities of the organization. To that end it:

  1. Determines how the organization will carry out its mission and strategic plan through long and short-range planning.
  2. Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight and management
  3. Recruits, orients and develops board members
  4. Hires and evaluates the performance of the executive director
  5. Evaluates its performance and the overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission.
  6. Establishes policies for the effective management of the organization

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • understand and promote the organization's mission
  • be familiar with the organization's programs, policies and operations
  • understand the basic guidelines of maintaining charitable status, governance and upholding the charitable purposes of the organization
  • attend (online) board meetings and appropriate committee meetings
  • review agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings
  • participate in fund-raising activities and special events
  • participate in aspects of the organization commensurate with your abilities (program development, communications, marketing, financial and accounting, fund-raising, grant writing and implementation, etc.)

Qualifications and Requirements:

Members will have a keen interest in supporting children and families in the community in outdoor settings to develop nature connections.

We are seeking individuals who have a background in education, early childhood education, financial management, law, non-profit and/or corporate business experience, charitable organization experience, fund-raising.
