Position Title: Director of Events (Volunteer)
Type: volunteer / pro-bono
Organization: Connecting Environmental Professionals
Location: Toronto ON / Hybrid – meetings held virtually, some in person, need to be able to commute to Toronto

Position Summary

CEP-Toronto is recruiting a Director of Events with three to four years’ experience planning and managing events, particularly in the not-for-profit and/or sustainability sector. The Director of Events will oversee a team of 2-3 coordinators, and will work closely with our marketing team to manage events from start to finish. The Director will help to implement events by helping recruit and coordinate event speakers, vendors, and volunteers. The ideal candidate should have successfully worked on small to medium scale events with 50-100 attendees, have a great deal of self-sufficiency, sense of accountability, and ability to take responsibility in accomplishing their duties with minimal supervision. CEP-Toronto hosts 3-4 major events per year. Our goal is to increase the number of sold out events that are managed seamlessly and under budget, and we hope you can help us get there!

Responsibilities

  • Manage events team and all event logistics by developing and adhering to a workback schedule throughout the event planning process
  • Research and coordinate venue, catering, and other vendors as needed
  • Reach out to and coordinate with speakers as needed (with support from rest of CEP team)
  • Coordinate with the marketing team to provide information needed for event marketing materials
  • Assist the Director of Finance to adhere to event budget to avoid project overruns
  • Create implementation plans for the day of the event
  • Manage team members and volunteers for event day set up, tear down, and follow-ups as necessary
  • Track event key performance indicators and identify areas of improvement to work on for future events
  • Support recruitment for additional team members as needed

Time Requirements: Approximately 4 hours a week. Time requirement varies based on event schedule

Is this for you?

The Director of Events will ideally have the following traits and abilities:

  • Background and interest in environmental sustainability topics and familiarity with the sustainability landscape in Toronto
  • Bachelor’s degree in events management, business management, marketing communications, or related areas
  • Experience planning and coordinating events, experience in corporate/business events preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Team player capable of working with internal and external teams and partners
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively under tight timelines
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail
