Local Service Projects: YMCA Community Action Network
Type: volunteer
Organization: YMCA of Newfoundland and Labrador & other organizations
Location: St. John's, Newfoundland (In person at Ches Penney Family YMCA)

YMCA Community Action Network (YCAN) supports young people ages 15 to 30 years to develop their community leadership skills by identifying and implementing a local service project that is meaningful to them. Guided by a YCAN staff, youth deliver these local service projects in collaboration with organizations in their communities that youth, themselves, recruit as partners for their projects. With their community partners, youth co-design, deliver, or participate in the service project they have developed. This enables them to learn new life and work skills, build neighborhood connections, and make a difference in their communities.
