Spend Part of Your Summer Living and Working Close to Nature

Wind Whistle Farm is a developing farm and community project situated in the beautiful hills of Mulmur, approximately 90 minutes north of Toronto.

We are looking for positive, practical, and community-minded people who would enjoy spending time outdoors while helping us care for the land, grow food, and improve our shared spaces.

Our property includes vegetable gardens, forests, a pond, a timber-frame home, an outdoor kitchen, a sauna, a roundhouse, a yurt, cabins, and spaces used for occasional community gatherings.

This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to step away from city life, learn practical skills, meet interesting people, and contribute to a meaningful rural project.

Possible Activities

Depending on your interests, abilities, and the projects underway, you may help with:

  • Vegetable gardening, watering, weeding, and harvesting
  • Planting, mulching, composting, and soil improvement
  • Caring for gardens, trails, and outdoor spaces
  • Basic carpentry and creative building projects
  • Improving outdoor kitchens and gathering areas
  • Cooking and preparing shared meals
  • Organizing tools, materials, and communal spaces
  • Preparing for occasional community events
  • General farm and property care

No professional experience is required. We are happy to teach people who are attentive, motivated, and genuinely interested in learning.

Some projects are physically active, so applicants should be comfortable working outdoors and participating at a steady pace. We can also shape the experience around gardening, cooking, organization, creative projects, or lighter property care when appropriate.

Schedule

We generally ask for approximately five hours of help per day, five days per week.

We normally work during the morning and early afternoon, leaving time later in the day to relax, explore the area, swim, use the sauna, spend time in nature, or enjoy the property.

Basic participation in shared cooking and keeping communal spaces tidy is part of living together.

What We Provide

  • Accommodation in a cabin, yurt, or comfortable seasonal tent
  • Shared meals and access to fresh produce from the gardens
  • A welcoming and community-oriented environment
  • Opportunities to learn gardening, landscaping, carpentry, and practical land-based skills
  • Access to the sauna, pond, forests, trails, campfire areas, and communal spaces
  • A beautiful rural setting near Creemore and the Niagara Escarpment

Our meals are generally wholesome and vegetable-focused, although we also eat some meat, eggs, and dairy. We can usually accommodate reasonable dietary needs with advance notice.

Who Would Be a Good Fit?

This opportunity may suit you if you:

  • Enjoy being outdoors and working with your hands
  • Are dependable, considerate, and able to take initiative
  • Are curious about gardening, sustainability, community living, or practical building
  • Appreciate both shared experiences and personal space
  • Can communicate openly and contribute positively to a small group
  • Are comfortable with a rustic rural setting

Solo travellers, friends, couples, newcomers to Canada, students, and people considering a transition toward a more land-based lifestyle are welcome to apply.

A vehicle is helpful but not essential. Transportation from nearby towns may sometimes be arranged, although applicants should discuss their travel plans with us in advance.

How to Apply

Please send a short introduction that includes:

  • Your name and current location
  • Your preferred dates and length of stay
  • Any relevant interests, skills, or experience
  • What attracts you to this opportunity
  • Whether you have your own transportation
