VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Positions: Park Ambassador
Organization: Derby Reach Brae Island Parks Association
Location: Langley, Greater Vancouver BC

We recognize the fundamental role that volunteers and volunteerism play in building a strong, considerate, and vibrant community. Those wishing to volunteer with DRBIPA can join a Park Ambassador committee in order to take part in fun annual events, attend stewardship work parties to restore and conserve areas of the parks, and spend time on the trails as Roving Park Ambassadors to provide educational information to other park users.

Park Ambassadors often complete planned environmental conservation and land stewardship activities in Derby Reach and Brae Island Regional Parks. Volunteers also participate in DRBIPA community events in the Fort Langley area. Events happen throughout the year and you can participate in as few or as many as you'd like!

If you have any questions or wish to apply as a volunteer please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at:
outreach@drbipa.org

Park Ambassadors provide support as directed by our volunteer coordinator by joining one or more of three key teams:

Public Education

  • foster appreciation for the parks, promoting DRBIPA while roaming the trails and helping to enhance the park experience by reporting back to DRBIPA - pairs provide education on the trails in Derby Reach and Brae Island Regional Parks to help others learn about DRBIPA and our role in protecting the parks
  • write DRBIPA nature education blog posts or assist at public education workshops and presentations with setup, takedown, and event operations

Stewardship & Conservation

  • groups of DRBIPA Park Ambassadors work to preserve and maintain the ecological health of Derby Reach and Brae Island Regional Parks – Volunteers restore degraded habitats, remove invasive species, plant native species, conserve the centenarian heritage orchard, participate in other enhancements as needed and support our Langley Bog Restoration Committee
  • support Metro Vancouver Regional Park stewardship initiatives and work parties in the Derby Reach and Brae Island Regional Parks

Community Outreach & Events

  • support DRBIPA with development and marketing of events that promote DRBIPA while enriching the social and personal lives of community members
  • assist DRBIPA at annual community events with setup, takedown, and event operations (ie: Derby Reach Park Day and the AGM)
