Volunteer Opportunity

Position: Social Media Operative

We are seeking a reliable and experienced volunteer to support the work of NOFRAC to provide timely, accurate, and professional social media presence in support of NOFRAC messaging and target audiences.

The ideal candidate must be available 2 or more hours per week. They will report to a small (1-3 member) communications sub-committee of NOFRAC. We are offering a small honourarium to support your contribution.

About NOFRAC

NOFRAC, the Nova Scotia Fracking Resource and Action Coalition, was formed in December 2010 to share reliable information about the risks of hydraulic fracturing and the development of shale gas in Nova Scotia, and to raise public awareness about these risks. NOFRAC was part of the broad movement that resulted in Nova Scotia banning hydraulic fracturing in shale in 2014. 

NOFRAC revived in 2025 when Premier Houston introduced a bill to repeal the fracking ban. Our purpose is to again share reliable information and raise public awareness about the risks of shale gas development and fracking for Nova Scotia and to keep or restore a ban on fracking in Nova Scotia. — nofrac.ca

Tasks

• Collaborate with NOFRAC to understand tone and voice
• Develop regular, timely, and accessible social media messages and posts to reach audiences with information about NoFrac activities and fracking news (Ideally 2-3 posts per week)
• Design, videography/video editing, and copy writing experience
• Posts on Facebook and Instagram
• Explore options for setting up new social media accounts to reach new audiences, as appropriate (such as Reddit and Tiktok etc)

Qualifications

• Ability to identify key messages, messengers, and audiences
• Expert in modern social media methodologies for Instagram, Facebook: our ideal candidate will actively use social media
• Understanding of the different audiences and how to reach them with strategic messaging and social media targeting methods
