Hiring: SNAP Field Team Members
Employer: Surrey's Natural Areas Partnership (SNAP)
Location: Surrey, Greater Vancouver BC

  • Term: September 4th – November 27th, 2026
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday – Friday (occasional weekend work with advanced notice)
  • Compensation: $22.05/hour

Position Description:

The SNAP Field Team Member will implement ecological restoration and enhancement projects in Surrey parks by removing invasive plants, maintaining planting sites, removing litter and refuse, and providing shade tree maintenance. You will report to a Field Team Leader and the SNAP Program Manager in this field-based position. This position is primarily focused on invasive plant management and native planting initiatives. The role requires a high degree of adaptability, including responding to changing priorities, field conditions, and weather. It also involves engaging with community members, youth participants, and volunteers to support stewardship and restoration activities.

Duties:

  • Ensure restoration work is completed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Communicate with the public as an ambassador of SNAP and our partner organizations
  • Assist the Field Team Leader with data collection and daily record keeping
  • Other related duties as required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary study in a related field such as urban forestry, geography, biology, arboriculture, environmental studies, or other relevant fields of study
  • Ability to perform repetitive, physical work outdoors in all weather conditions, and ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Strong work ethic and initiative, able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of ecological principles, ability to identify local native and invasive plants and common shade trees
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and have full availability for the duration of the work-term (3 months)
  • Valid Class 5 or 7 BC driver’s license (or equivalent) with a safe driving history, and willingness to submit a driver’s abstract
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of employment)
  • Completion of a Police Information Check will be required as a condition of employment

For potential grant funding purposes, preference may be given to candidates who:

  • are between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • are currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary education program
  • are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada and BC
