Position: Seasonal Watershed Outreach Technician
Type: age 30 & under / summer
Organization: Lesser Slave Watershed Council
Location: High Prairie, Alberta

Pay: CA$20.00 – CA$23.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-time, Seasonal (April – September)

The LSWC is hiring a seasonal Watershed Technician to join our team from May to September 2026, in High Prairie, AB.

Working closely with the Outreach Coordinator and reporting to the Executive Director, the Watershed Technician will support the LSWC’s education and outreach initiatives, environmental monitoring programs, watershed resiliency work, and promote watershed stewardship.

The Watershed Technician will:

  • Promote lake and watershed stewardship
  • Deliver youth educational programs and field trips
  • Particpate in pop ups at beaches, boat launches and campgrounds to share watershed resources and raise awareness.
  • Participate in community events to raise the LSWC’s community profile
  • Create content for the LSWC social platforms

Support the LSWC’s monitoring programs, including:

  • Tributary water quality sampling
  • Lake water quality sampling
  • Aquatic invasive species sampling
  • Installing and maintaining stream temperature loggers
  • Water quality-related data entry and administration

Support LSWC projects and provide administrative support to the Executive Director as required.

Required Skills:

  • 18 years or older, preference to candidates with 1+ years of post secondary completed.
  • Some knowledge of watersheds, water quality, lakes and aquatic ecosystems
  • Positive attitude, self-starter, highly motivated
  • Comfortable talking to general public and students/youth
  • Good verbal communication skills and active listening skills
  • Effective time-management skills
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Experience with Microsoft 365
  • Safety conscious
  • Fitness – ability to climb and hike >1km, ability to lift up to 40lbs, ability to conduct activities such as tree planting or invasive weed removal.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and evenings
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The LSWC will provide:

  • Computer, email account, access to cloud-based shared folder.
  • Training and coaching from staff
  • Support and supervision
  • Use of a vehicle for work related travel.

About the Organization
The Lesser Slave Watershed Council (LSWC) is a non-profit, charitable organization that works in partnership with stakeholders and governments to promote the health and sustainable management of land and water in the Lesser Slave Watershed using the best science available.

Under the Government of Alberta’s Water for Life: Alberta’s Strategy for Sustainability, the LSWC was designated in 2007 as the Watershed Planning and Advisory Council (WPAC) for the Lesser Slave watershed. As a WPAC, the LSWC is tasked with watershed planning, fostering collaborations and supporting stewardship activities in the watershed, monitoring and report on the state of the watershed, and educating people in the basin about the watershed and the importance of responsible management.
