Position Overview:

The Bike Valet Assistant Operations Manager is the operational core of the Bike Valet program, responsible for ensuring seamless daily execution across all sites. This position provides direct field support, manages equipment and inventory, coordinates staffing and logistics, and serves as the primary on-site leader during weekends, events, and when coverage is required.
The Assistant Manager works closely with the Bike Valet Manager to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality service. This role requires hands-on involvement in setup, teardown, audits, and staff supervision. The Assistant Operations Manager will maintain compliance with WorkSafeBC and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, and demonstrate leadership in operational safety and customer service excellence.
Responsibilities:
1. Daily Operations and Shift Coverage
- Coordinate and oversee day-to-day Bike Valet operations, including site setup, equipment transport, and teardown.
- Act as the official standby and coverage lead for shifts when needed, including evenings and graveyard hours.
- Serve as the primary weekend shift supervisor, ensuring consistency of service quality and staff coverage.
- Support the Bike Valet Manager with scheduling, shift adjustments, and last-minute replacements.
- Maintain real-time communication with site staff, providing direction and resolving operational issues on-site.
- Ensure accurate customer service and adherence to Bike Valet protocols at all times.
2. Staff Coordination and Leadership
- Supervise on-site staff and volunteers during events, ensuring professionalism and adherence to safety standards.
- Provide hands-on training and coaching for new attendants and site leads.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, and staff performance, reporting issues to the Bike Valet Manager.
- Promote a positive, collaborative work culture that prioritizes safety, teamwork, and customer service.
3. Equipment, Inventory, and Maintenance
- Manage all Bike Valet equipment, including racks, tents, signage, radios, and tools.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and maintain detailed records of equipment usage and condition.
- Coordinate and assist in the repair, cleaning, and maintenance of all Bike Valet gear.
- Track supply needs and communicate procurement requests to the Manager and Finance.
- Oversee secure storage, organization, and transportation of all assets.
- Participate directly in the loading, unloading, and setup of materials for events and sites.
4. Safety, Compliance, and First Aid
- Ensure that all operations comply with WorkSafeBC and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Serve as the on-site safety lead, monitoring adherence to safety procedures and PPE use.
- Hold and maintain a valid First Aid certification and respond to any on-site incidents or emergencies.
- Conduct safety briefings for staff and volunteers prior to shifts or special events.
- Document incidents, near-misses, and hazards; report findings to the Bike Valet Operations Manager promptly.
- Support ongoing staff training in safety awareness and emergency procedures.
5. Reporting and Documentation
- Complete daily operational reports, including attendance, bike counts, incidents, and site observations.
- Submit weekly summaries to the Bike Valet Manager for analysis and performance tracking.
- Maintain updated records of inventory audits, maintenance schedules, and operational logs.
- Assist in collecting data and feedback for program evaluation and reporting.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Event-based shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Physically active role requiring standing and walking for extended periods
Requirements
- Education: Diploma or certificate in Operations, Event Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Minimum 1-2 years in operations, logistics, or event coordination, preferably in transportation or sustainability sectors.
- Certifications:
- Valid First Aid Certification (required)
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License (required)
- Familiarity with WorkSafeBC and OHS standards (required)
- Technical Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and scheduling tools.
- Ability to track and manage inventory systems accurately.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment maintenance and repair.
