Position Title: Summer Nature Camp Educator
Organization: Toronto Nature School
Location: Toronto, Ontario
- Position Type: Seasonal Employee (potential to continue on part time in the Fall)
- Start Date: Mandatory Training June 23-24
- Camp Start Date; July 6
- Camp End Date: Aug 28
- 8 weeks
- Monday- Friday Full time Seasonal
- Hours: 8:30am- 3:30pm , Some weeks camp counsellors will be doing after care until 5pm
- Compensation: $18.00- $22/ hr Depending on Experience and Qualifications

Responsibilities
- Plan weekly and daily activities that ensure meet the objectives of the day camp goals
- Ensure program plans are being followed and that campers are having a fun, safe, and engaging high quality camp experience
- Be comfortable around water, beach, wading pool. Monitor children vigilantly.
- Supervise and ensure campers are being safe and supported at all times during their day camp experience providing opportunities for all campers to experience success
- Attend training session
- Follow Health and Safety protocols and procedures including Covid-19 guidelines
- Clean up after activities ensuring that the learning and playing areas are clean, organized and safe to ensure the Health & Safety of all camp participants.
- Communicate with parents/ guardians
- Actively participate in staff training and staff meetings
- Maintain the safety of children, understanding sun safety.
- Engage in play based and developmentally appropriate programming for all
- Collaborate with other staff to share ideas.
- Assess risks and risk management of sites and children, perform a site check upon arrival to a new space.
- Ensure first aid kits and camper contact information are properly handle and stored.
- Encourage camp culture by leading songs and games.
- Willingness to continue to learn new skills.
- Familiarize yourself with the school philosophy’s and forms.
- Other duties as required

Qualifications
- Experience working with children
- 16+ on start day of work
- Swim experience and comfort around the water
- Love for the outdoors
- Current First Aid and CPR with level C ( obtain by start day)
- Police Vulnerable Sectors Check (obtain by start day)
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication skills with parents/ guardians, campers and staff,
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of all cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
- Physically capable of working in all weather conditions, carrying a backpack, carrying learning materials. Abilities to walk for long periods on uneven terrain.
- Understand play based learning, outdoor learning and principles of risky play.
- High energy, enthusiastic, outgoing individual. Excellent verbal communication and conflict resolution skills.
