Do you have a passion for turning research into real-world impacts? If you’re driven by curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to building a more sustainable and inclusive future, this is an exceptional opportunity to join a forward-thinking team at the University of Victoria’s Impact Investing Hub. As part of the Accelerated Community Energy Transition (ACET) initiative, you’ll help translate cutting-edge research in impact investing, transition finance and innovative business and governance models into tools, stories, and insights that empower communities and decision-makers to accelerate Canada’s energy transition.

Positions Summary

The Knowledge Mobilization (KM) Lead will play a central role in advancing the Impact Investing Hub’s research agenda within the ACET initiative. ACET collaborates with communities seeking to accelerate their energy transformation by co-creating equitable and resilient clean energy solutions that create new economic opportunities and strengthen local autonomy. Working closely with faculty, researchers, and partners, the KM Lead will design and implement knowledge mobilization strategies that make research accessible, impactful, and responsive to the needs of communities, policymakers, investors, and the impact investing ecosystem.

This position combines strategic communication, partnership engagement, and applied research translation to ensure that the Hub’s research and education initiatives contribute to tangible outcomes: from mobilizing data and insights to co-creating financial solutions that align capital with net-zero, inclusive and community-based economies.

Objectives

  • Mobilize Research Knowledge: Develop and implement a strategic plan to translate academic outputs into accessible formats (e.g., policy briefs, toolkits, dashboards, and case studies) that inform decision-making among practitioners, communities, and policymakers.
  • Enhance Partner and Community Benefits: Engage with research partners and collaborators after project completion to ensure that those who contributed to the research can access, apply, and benefit from its findings. Facilitate feedback loops, tailored knowledge products, and capacity-building activities that strengthen real-world impact.
  • Demonstrate and Amplify Research Impact: Evaluate, document, and communicate the societal, policy, and financial outcomes of ACET and Impact Investing Hub projects, ensuring alignment with UVic’s commitments to sustainability, reconciliation, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of a knowledge mobilization strategy that translates research findings from projects led by the Impact Investing into accessible, engaging, and action-oriented materials such as policy briefs, reports, case studies, blogs, and social media content.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of key actors, networks, and initiatives in the sustainable finance and impact investing ecosystem to inform outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Coordinate events, workshops, and dialogues to disseminate research outcomes and foster mutual learning between academic, policy, and community audiences.
  • Develop and maintain strategic communication channels (website, social media, newsletters) to amplify projects' visibility and promote the practical application of findings among policymakers, communities, and practitioners.
  • Support the integration of Indigenous knowledge systems and community priorities in knowledge-sharing processes, ensuring ethical and reciprocal engagement.
  • Engage with project partners and collaborators after research completion to ensure they can access, understand, and benefit from the results, including through follow-up sessions and tailored communication materials.
  • Collaborate with ACET-wide KM and Communication team, and data team to document project outcomes and impacts for ACET KM, Comms and reporting purposes.
  • Provide training and guidance to researchers and students on effective knowledge mobilization and impact communication.
  • Contribute to funding proposals, impact reports, and institutional communication materials highlighting the impact of the Hub’s initiatives.

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • A graduate degree in communications, public policy, business, sustainability, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex research into accessible content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management, writing, and digital communication skills.
  • Experience organizing knowledge exchange events or external engagement processes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with researchers, community organizations, and funding agencies.
  • Proficiency in using standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Experience working on cross-sector partnerships involving universities, communities, and government or industry stakeholders.
  • Experience maintaining and updating websites or online knowledge platforms, including posting new content.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/French) or experience communicating across diverse cultural contexts is an asset.
