Position: Investment Analyst

Outline of Organization

The Sitka Foundation (“Sitka” or “the Foundation”) is a family foundation with a mission to catalyze the protection of the environment and promotion of biodiversity. Sitka achieves this goal through activation of its capital in philanthropy and investments. Sitka has a dedicated sustainable investment strategy and seeks to invest more capital toward companies, funds and managers that share the Foundation’s values toward nature resilience and conservation. Sitka is supported by the family office located in the downtown core of Vancouver, BC.

Outline of Position

We are seeking an experienced Investment Analyst to assist with various aspects of investment and impact management across a multi-asset investment portfolio. This is an exciting and diverse role for someone who wants to look at a variety of asset classes and is passionate about sustainable investing, including an emerging program of integrated capital between our investment and philanthropic teams. Reporting to the Director of Investments, this is a new, permanent, and full-time position based in Vancouver. The Analyst will work for both the Foundation and the family office.

Responsibilities include:

As Investment Analyst you will support and work directly with the Director of Investments in the day-to-day operations with responsibilities related to the management of the investment portfolio. Specifically, you will be responsible for:

Investment Management (80%)

  • Assist with the research, monitoring, and evaluation of existing and prospective funds and portfolio managers across both public and private investments including venture capital due diligence (cap table analysis, reference calls, market research, etc).
  • Conduct deep dives in due diligence and research topics to incorporate biodiversity and climate solutions within the investment portfolio, upon request.
  • Originate new investment opportunities, develop new relationships and maintain internal databases and CRM tools.
  • Provide comprehensive investment memos and recommendations for investment approval.
  • Support the investment team’s monthly portfolio updates, quarterly reports, as well as board meeting material presentations and ad hoc updates with the President.
  • Apply a general understanding of CRA guidelines for investments in private foundations (non qualifying securities, excess business holding rules, etc) and work upon the direction of other members of the finance team.
  • Represent the Foundation at conferences, events, and other gatherings.
  • Other tasks assigned by the family office and Foundation team, as needed.

Integrated Capital Lead and Administrative Support (20%)

  • Help the development and activation of a new and emergent program whereby capital is deployed to further Sitka’s mission through creative financial tools such as program related investments (PRIs),  catalytic finance pathways, conservation finance opportunities or other unique investments.
  • Support research, due diligence, reporting and relationship management for several catalytic grants that cross asset classes as well as communications, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA’s charitable rules and regulations.

Position Requirements

  • Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Five years in the investment or finance industry, including prior experience (1-2 years) within the sustainable finance or impact investing field.
  • Post-secondary degree in finance, economics, business, other related disciplines.
  • CFA or equivalent designations will be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including financial modeling.
  • Experience undertaking due diligence on investment opportunities.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate risk and performance of investments.
  • Passion and intellectual curiosity for climate change and biodiversity solutions.
  • Flexible, collaborative, willing to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Open to working in a dynamic and small team environment.
  • Experience in the social/philanthropic sector is beneficial but not essential.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, other portfolio management financial tools.

Compensation and Benefits. The position is based in a family office in downtown Vancouver. Some travel is required to conduct due diligence. The base salary (in the range of $82,500 - $105,000) plus an annual performance bonus is commensurate with experience and includes a health benefits package and paid vacation.
