Summer student: Festival Organizer

The Centre for Local Prosperity is hiring five Festival Organizers from the Colchester-Cumberland region to help bring Local Prosperity 2026: Local People, Local Solutions to life in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia this summer!

These positions have been made possible through the Canada Summer Jobs program and are an opportunity for local youth (15-30 years) to gain experience in event production, community organizing, communications and marketing, and logistics while working alongside an inspiring network of nonprofit organizations, community groups & organizers, artists, farmers, craftspeople, business owners and entrepreneurs, and many other community leaders from across Atlantic Canada.

About Local Prosperity 2026: Local People, Local Solutions

Local Prosperity 2026 is a hybrid festival-conference focused on building resilient, regenerative, and re-localized communities and place-based economies in Atlantic Canada. It is an opportunity to listen, learn from, and celebrate incredible people and projects from across the region.

The event includes:

  • Keynote speakers and plenary sessions
  • Workshops and panel discussions
  • Hands-on skill-sharing sessions (Up!Skilling)
  • Live music and arts programming
  • Food trucks and vendors
  • Kids and youth activities
  • Community networking
  • & more!

Position Details:

  • Position: Festival Organizer
  • Wage: $20/hr
  • Hours: 30hrs/week
  • Employment length: 9 weeks
  • Start date: June 15, 2026
  • Location: Hybrid remote + in-person in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on your interests and strengths, tasks and responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinating workshops & presenters
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Transportation coordination (parking, shuttles, etc.)
  • Social media and content creation
  • Communications and marketing
  • Logistics and scheduling
  • Vendor and exhibitor support
  • Accessibility and inclusion support
  • Site set-up & tear-down
  • Photography, videography, storytelling
  • Community outreach and promotion
  • Other! This just gives you an idea of what to expect!

Who We’re Looking For

  • We’re looking for responsible, organized, community-minded, adaptable people who are excited about collaborative event work and building stronger local communities & economies and want to have fun while doing it!
  • Folks who can work independently in a remote work environment (and have access to reliable internet and a computer)
  • Previous event organizing experience is not required to apply but it would be considered an asset
  • Applicants must be available in person in Tatamagouche from August 5-10, 2026, including evenings during the event (Aug 6-9).

Eligibility

These positions are majority funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:

  • Be between 15-30 years old
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee status
