Position Title: Flavour Trails™ Program & Event Assistant

The program: Flavour Trails™ is a long standing community, agri-tourism, and food literacy program focused on connecting communities and consumers to local food producers and growers.

A signature event celebrating the program's 20th Anniversary will take place on the third weekend of August 2026.

Job Description:

Are you an extrovert person who loves to connect with farmers, local producers, and community members?

As the Flavour Trails™ Program & Event Assistant you will support planning, promotion, and delivery of the 2026 Flavour Trails™ Program. Including hosting and participating in various events throughout the spring and summer.

What the work will involve:

  • Use of creative and innovative engagement tools to promote Flavour Trails™
  • Visit trails partners, farms, and event sites across the Capital Region, including Saanich Peninsula area
  • Conducted on-the-ground outreach to install promotional posters and banner flags in high-visibility locations, community hubs, local businesses, farmland, etc
  • Attend and table at farmers markets and community events to promote Flavour Trails™
  • Support social media content development and scheduling
  • Produce videos, reels, and photography to promote and showcase various Flavour Trails™ events
  • Attend team meetings, take minutes, both in person and online
  • Support the Flavour Trails™ Program Coordination Team as needed

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Be eligible under Canada Summer Jobs guidelines
  • MUST be between 18 - 30 years old, and be a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen
  • Willingness to adhere to workplace policies and safety procedures
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Comfortable hosting events and speaking to the public
  • Experience and knowledge of social media and online platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, Google Workspace tool, Canva, Wix, Slack) an asset
  • Graphic Design, Photography, and/or Videography skills an asset
  • Have access to a personal computer, laptop preferred
  • Have access to a vehicle and a valid BC drivers license, and ability to drive around the Capital Region
  • A passion for strengthening our local food system and food security

Related Field of Studies:

  • Tourism Management, Event & Hospitality Management, Recreation and Community Development, Communications and Public Relations

Main Responsibilities:

  • Planning: record and distribute meeting minutes, note taking, and scheduling
  • Outreach: attend farmers markets and other community events to promote Flavour Trails™,
  • Promotions: support with social media; “trail” assets distribution (banner flags, posters, maps, brochures)
  • Signature Events: support planning and hosting, including set up, take down, on site volunteer coordination, animate kids activities and Zucchini Race Track.

Working Conditions:

Physical Effort: Sit with arms unsupported while typing (computer work); Standing for long periods of time (occasional), lift and move approx 30 to 40lbs event totes, tents, and materials.

Mental Effort: Focus on a variety of tasks; meet and project deadlines; meeting and event hosting (often)

Sensory Load: Mostly low with occasional high sensory input during events and meetings as noted below.

Auditory: Overlapping conversations and shouting over noise;

Visual: Fast-paced movement—people, signage, safety markings; Fluctuating lighting (bright fluorescents or dim corners); High visual clutter—stacked boxes and supplies (occasionally)

Tactile: Cold or hot temperatures when outdoors (often)

Work Environment: Home office (often), shared office, meeting rooms (occasional), community spaces, event venues indoors and outdoors, including farms (often), warehouse and commercial kitchen (occasional)

Wage range: $19.50 - 23 per hour depending on experience (Phone stipend and mileage reimbursement provided)

Term: 10 to 14 weeks

Hours: 20 to 30 Hours Weekly, with flexible schedule. Required to work weekends and evenings to attend community events and program events. Total amount of working hours will be approximately 280
This position is contingent on Canada Summer Jobs funding.
