Position: Sea Turtle Educational Outreach Intern
Type: summer jobs & student positions
Organization: Canadian Sea Turtle Network
Location: Canadian Sea Turtle Centre, Halifax Waterfront, Nova Scotia

Help us help sea turtles!

Leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles are endangered in Canadian waters and worldwide. The Canadian Sea Turtle Network (CSTN) works to conserve them. One of the important ways we do this is through public outreach and education. We are looking for someone to help us with this work, joining our team at the Canadian Sea Turtle Centre on the Halifax waterfront this summer as a Sea Turtle Educational Outreach Intern.

A few details:

This position combines experience in science and environmental public education as well as in retail and tourism. At the Sea Turtle Centre, the Sea Turtle Educational Outreach Intern will teach members of the general public about the biology of sea turtles, the research of the CSTN, and the critical role Canadians play in sea turtle conservation worldwide.

There is a small retail section in the Sea Turtle Centre to fundraise for our charity, so the intern will also develop skills associated with a retail environment.

The intern will also have the opportunity to help mentor the young people involved in the Sea Turtle Centre volunteer programs and will help develop and implement a range of special programming for public events. The Sea Turtle Educational Outreach intern may also help with various administrative tasks in the CSTN main office as needed.

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Term: May 25-August 31, 2026 (with the possibility of extension into fall 2026)
Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours/week)
Note: This position requires working weekends and holidays

  • be an enthusiastic learner, imaginative thinker, and enjoy working as part of a team
  • have a demonstrated interest in the environment
  • have the ability to clearly explain scientific information to people of all ages
  • be comfortable working in a small retail environment
  • enjoy working with the general public
  • be kind, cheerful and flexible

It would be nice if the Sea Turtle Educational Outreach Intern:

  • had previous experience working with children, teens or adults
  • had experience in developing educational or creative programming
