Hiring: Environmental Program Coordinator

The Toronto Environmental Alliance is hiring an Environmental Program Coordinator for a 8-week contract. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

• Full-time contract: 8 weeks at 35 hours/week, starting May 25th, 2026
• Pay: $26.00 per hour

• This position is open to candidates between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of their employment through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. 

The Position

The Environmental Program Coordinator will work closely with TEA’s Campaigns Team on projects to promote zero waste and a shift from single-use to reusable foodware in Toronto.

This will include:

• Assisting our work to champion sustainability and waste reduction goals for the FIFA 2026 games, including engaging residents at FIFA and associated events
• Assisting with tracking and promoting zero waste and reuse pilot projects 
• Supporting policy goals to shift from single-use to reusable foodware across Toronto

The Coordinator will also have the opportunity to support on other TEA projects, including: 

• Attending community events and festivals to promote TEA’s projects. 
• Supporting virtual and in person meetings, workshops and community events with TEA’s partners and community collaborators as needed, e.g. note taking, logistics support. 
• Supporting TEA projects with background research on local environmental concerns. 
• Supporting TEA staff with environmental policy tracking, and administrative tasks including data entry and event reporting.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• A commitment to TEA’s equity-focused approach to environmental issues. 
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Self-starter, creative, out-going, self-motivated, a good team worker.
• Able to work some evenings and weekends for community outreach events.
• Able to travel to attend events and sites in all parts of Toronto (downtown areas, Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough)

Assets: 

• Interest and awareness of urban environmental issues, strong interest in social justice and municipal policy an asset
• Education or background in environmental studies, policy, political science, or waste and resources
• Experience and comfort engaging with people on environmental issues
• Demonstrated experience with research, collecting data, surveying 
• Knowledge of zero-waste policies and practices, including single-use plastic reduction and reuse
• Experience in or knowledge of sustainability in hospitality and events an asset

Location: TEA has a hybrid workplace with an office in downtown Toronto, online work and collaboration, as well as work at community events and locations around the city. 

This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, the successful applicant must:

• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; 
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
