Job Title: Solar and Battery Energy Storage Specialist

Job Summary

Summerhill is dedicated to developing, implementing, and managing public engagement and market transformation programs that lead to measurable improvements in energy savings.

The Solar Specialist supports the delivery and continuous improvement of the Home Renovation Savings Program’s Solar PV and Battery Storage stream. The role is responsible for high-quality application review, timely and accurate participant, contractor, and client support, and adherence to established service-level agreements. Drawing on strong knowledge of the residential solar and battery installation industry, the Solar Specialist provides practical, industry-informed recommendations to improve program design, requirements, and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Solar Subject & Matter Expertise & Advisory

  • Serve as the program’s technical subject matter expert for residential solar PV and battery storage systems, providing authoritative guidance on system design, equipment eligibility, installation standards, and compliance with program requirements to internal teams, contractors, clients and delivery partners.

Application Review & Solar Trade Ally Management

  • Conduct pre-installation and post-installation application reviews in accordance with program guidelines, SLAs, and internal quality standards
  • Support training and onboarding of application reviewers on solar and battery application review requirements
  • Perform weekly quality assurance reviews pre and post-approved applications, identifying trends and coaching opportunities for contractors and application reviewers in the Contact Centre

Solar Contact Centre & Contractor Support

  • Answer incoming calls directed to the solar support queue and address participant and contractor inquiries in real time
  • Monitor and manage the solar program email inbox daily, ensuring all inquiries are responded to within established service-level timelines
  • Manage and resolve contractor escalations in a timely and professional manner, documenting actions taken and outcomes.

Industry Expertise & Program Improvement

  • Apply in-depth knowledge of residential solar PV and battery storage systems industry trends to recommend updates to program rules, guidance, and documentation
  • Identify recurring application or installation issues and propose improvements to reduce rework and improve participant and contractor experience
  • Monitor industry trends and contractor practices and translate insights into actionable program design recommendations

Internal Collaboration & Ad-Hoc Support

  • Respond to ad-hoc operational, administrative, and program-related requests from internal team members
  • Attend and contribute to internal meetings, training sessions, and program-related discussions
  • Support the Program Manager and/or the Portfolio Manager with various tasks as requested

Education & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience in residential solar PV and/or battery storage installation, design, inspections, contractor operations, or program delivery
  • Strong understanding of program operations through experience working in program coordination or program management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of M365 suite of tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
