Sustainability at Makerapace
At Makerspace we provide shared use of tools, equipment and space, which at its core is an eco-conscious enterprise. Much like how car co-ops aim to reduce the number of cars needed by a given population, thus reducing the overall environmental cost of every individual owning their own car, we reduce the environmental cost of every person's garage being turned into their own woodshop, metal shop, printing press, etc. Makerspase is fundamentally about inclusion, community, and resource sharing.
OUr most aligned program Mend Repair Cafe. This is a volunteer-run repair session, every second week of the month, where members and the general public can bring in items to be repaired by skilled volunteers. We also teach and train volunteers to host these repair cafes which focus on repairing small electronics, clothing and textiles, household items and furniture, and bicycles.
