Salary Range: $85,000 to $115,000 based on experience

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) is seeking a visionary and results-driven Director of Land Securement to lead, grow, and optimize its dynamic land acquisition and securement initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President of Land Securement, this role will collaborate with a high-performing team and a broad network of internal and external stakeholders—including landowners, volunteers, government bodies, and professional consultants—to protect and expand the Bruce Trail's conservation corridor.

As a senior leader within the organization, the Director will combine deep operational proficiency, strategic thinking, and real estate expertise to accelerate the pace of securement and ensure the long-term success of one of Ontario’s most iconic natural assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Program Growth

• Deliver the BTC’s ambitious conservation mandate by acquiring and securing critical land parcels along the Bruce Trail corridor.
• Develop and execute long-term strategic plans that scale the program’s impact, improve efficiencies, and drive innovation in land securement.
• Identify and remove systemic and logistical barriers to securement, ensuring BTC remains agile and adaptive in a fast-paced real estate environment.

Process Optimization

• Design and implement standardized, scalable workflows to streamline securement processes, including landowner engagement, negotiation, acquisition, and disposals.
• Integrate and manage technical systems, databases, and digital tools that support the securement lifecycle and performance tracking.
• Establish clear metrics and reporting systems to monitor project progress, inform decision-making, and ensure accountability.

Capacity Building

• Build capacity across the team and organization by developing comprehensive training programs and resources for staff and volunteer engagement in securement activities.
• Promote knowledge sharing, professional development, and continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with landowners, legal professionals, conservation authorities, Indigenous communities, and government agencies.
• Represent BTC in negotiations, partnerships, and collaborative initiatives that further land protection goals.
• Actively engage with communities to promote awareness of BTC’s mission and securement opportunities.

Policy, Risk & Compliance

• Ensure all securement activities align with applicable land use policies, environmental regulations, and internal governance standards.
• Anticipate, assess, and mitigate legal, financial, and reputational risks associated with land transactions.
• Provide expert advice on land policy trends and how they impact BTC’s operations.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

• Proven track record of leading and scaling programs in a fast-moving real estate, conservation, or land management environment.
• Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in land acquisition, real estate transactions, or environmental planning, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Strong operational and project management skills, with the ability to streamline processes and manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously.
• Exceptional negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• High proficiency in managing databases, GIS tools, and other digital platforms relevant to land securement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent BTC at the executive and community levels.
• Knowledge of Ontario’s land use planning frameworks, real estate law, and conservation policy is an asset.
• A passion for environmental conservation and the mission of the Bruce Trail Conservancy.
