Job Position: Conservation and Trail Assistant – 1 year contract
Organization: The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC)
Location: 55 Head St, Suite 101, Dundas, Ontario / Hybrid 1-2 days in the office per week

Salary Range: $50,000 to $55,000
Targeted Start Date: January 5, 2025
Contract: 12 months
Hours: Full-Time Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30pm

The Bruce Trail Conservancy is seeking an assistant to join the Conservation and Trail Team.

Reporting to the Director of Conservation and Trail, this new position supports land management, infrastructure planning, and administrative coordination for BTC properties and trail systems. The position assists with preparing permits, applications, and land use agreements, and plays a key role in coordinating land and trail-related infrastructure needs. The role works closely with BTC clubs, partner organizations, ecologists, and adjacent landowners to support monitoring activities, data sharing, and resolution of encroachment or property-related issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to prepare permits and applications for various infrastructure, conservation and trail projects
  • Prepare and administer Land Use Agreements with farmers and other tenants using BTC managed lands
  • Liaise with Clubs to collect, coordinate and prepare Trail Status Reports and Annual Property Monitoring Reports and prepare statistics for committee memos
  • Create basic maps in ArcGIS on an as needed basis
  • Facilitate contracts to improve trail user experience on BTC lands
  • Coordinate orders and delivery of BTC signage to volunteers across BTC Clubs
  • Assist with Committees and meetings as required including assembly of the package, taking minutes and other related duties
  • Work with partner organizations to share data related to natural heritage values and climate change mitigation including annual Canadian Protected Conservation Areas Database (CPCAD) submissions
  • Assist with conservation data entry and database maintenance

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Property management experience
  • GIS experience or course would be an asset
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with databases would be an asset
