Position: Interim Latin America Program Coordinator (Maternity leave replacement)
Organization: MiningWatch Canada
Location: Applicants must reside in the Toronto – Quebec City corridor

• Status: Temporary, 14-month contract, February 17, 2026 to April 15, 2027
• Schedule: 40hrs/week; Monday to Friday
• Compensation: We offer a competitive salary of $67,000 plus 5% in lieu of pension and a generous health benefits package

About MiningWatch Canada

MiningWatch Canada is a pan-Canadian initiative supported by environmental, social justice, Indigenous, and labour organizations from across the country. In collaboration with national and international networks, organizations and other supporters, MiningWatch Canada:

• Provides timely support to mining-affected communities and related organizations;
• Undertakes research and analysis of industrial mining and related policies and laws in Canada and concerning Canadian mining operations abroad;
• Engages in related campaigns and movement building; and
• Advocates for greater protections for Indigenous peoples and affected communities, as well as for justice and reparations for harms from mining by changing the policies, laws, and economic conditions that perpetuate mining-related abuses and injustice.

MiningWatch Canada has a small staff team with a shared management model. The Interim Latin America Program Coordinator will report to the co-management team.

Position Summary

The Latin America Program Coordinator will lead and coordinate MiningWatch’s work in Latin America, supporting Indigenous peoples and communities affected by Canadian mining operations and advancing advocacy, research, and movement-building efforts across the region.

Key responsibilities

Movement Building

• Coordinate solidarity campaigns in support of Indigenous peoples and communities impacted by Canadian mining activities in Latin America.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community groups, organisations, networks and individual experts and activists across Latin America and internationally.
• Conduct research and analysis on mining companies, projects and related policies, and their environmental and social impacts.

Policy and Regulatory Reform

• Promote mining policies that respect Indigenous people’s rights to self-determination, communities and the environment through engagement with the public, media, investors, policymakers and allied organizations.
• Collaborate with other organizations to advocate for the improvement and enforcement of laws and regulations to protect communities, workers, and ecosystems.

Fundraising

• Work with staff to prepare grant proposals and reports, and proactively contribute to the implementation of MiningWatch’s fundraising strategy.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of the social, economic, and political context of Canadian mining in Latin America and familiarity with the policy context in Canada.
• Experience in social justice, environmental, labour, and/or community organizing, activism, and coalition work.
• Excellent communication skills including research, writing communication materials, media work, public presentations, and online communications;
• Proven organizing and people skills including strategic thinking and campaigning, building movements and coalitions, facilitation and shared leadership, coordinating meetings, and working with diverse groups.
• Technical knowledge of different aspects of mining and its impacts;
• Fully bilingual in Spanish and English; proficiency in French is an asset.
