We are hiring a Program Coordinator – Youth Sustainable Transportation (temporary 4-month student internship position).

Job Title: Program Coordinator – Youth Sustainable Transportation
Organization: Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST)
Location: Vancouver, BC
Eligibility: Students of any of the following institutions: UVIC, UBC, SFU or UNBC (see below)

• Reports to: Director of Programs
• Work Arrangement: Full-time, hybrid position with a minimum of one day per week in the Vancouver office (1800 Spyglass Place). Flexible hours are available with prior approval. Occasional weekend hours may be required.
• Hours: 32 hours per week
• Salary: $30 per hour
• Start date: May 4, 2026
• End date: Aug 24, 2026

Eligible students must be enrolled – or accepted for enrolment – in a fulltime undergraduate or graduate program at one of the following institutions: UVIC, UBC, SFU or UNBC. Students must either be returning to complete their degree programs following the internship or have completed their programs the semester prior to the start of the internship. Since 1991, Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST) has worked to make sustainable transportation options better and more accessible. Our programs include initiatives that promote sustainable transportation and mobility equity, including programs to help newcomers, high school students and seniors have access to the transportation options they need. About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Program Coordinator – Youth Sustainable Transportation will continue to develop BEST Mobility’s sustainable transportation education program for youth and high school students across Metro Vancouver.

This initiative introduces young people, in particular high school students, to multi-modal transportation options - including car-sharing, bike-sharing, scooter-sharing, transit and cycling - to help them build healthy habits and the skills to explore their communities sustainably, confidently, and safely. The project aims to shape youths’ attitudes toward active and sustainable transportation by building awareness, habits, and advocacy skills early in life.

The Program Coordinator will take a lead role in developing a strategy to amplify the reach and impact of this program, and will also lead content development, workshop coordination and facilitation. This role also contributes to research, evaluation, and knowledge-sharing related to youth engagement in active transportation and sustainable transportation advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a strategy to expand the impact of BEST’s multi-modal education programs for high school students and youth
• Support project planning and the development of workshops and engagement materials for youth, students, and teachers
• Collaborate with partners, conduct outreach to high schools and youth-serving organizations, and schedule workshops
• Support and lead workshop facilitation, including note-taking, survey administration, and data collection
• Assist with basic data analysis and contribute to evaluation activities
• Research and prepare a brief report on best practices in youth engagement in sustainable transportation and how they can be integrated into BEST’s workshops and materials
• Refine training materials based on feedback from teachers and community collaborators
• Assist in drafting a final project report highlighting lessons learned, successes, and opportunities for scalability

Skills and Qualifications

• Proven experience in project planning, coordination, and/or leadership
• Experience facilitating groups (preferably youth) or delivering workshops for diverse populations
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Experience with data collection and basic quantitative data analysis
• Experience engaging with stakeholders and community partners
• Graphic design skills (e.g. Canva)
• Passion for active transportation, youth engagement, climate action, and advocacy for better travel choices
• Experience in project coordination
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required
