Position: Agricultural Stewardship Assistant
Organization: Kawartha Conservation
Location: Lindsay, Kawartha Lakes, Ontario

  • Full Time, Seasonal – 35 hours per week
  • May 4 – August 21, 2026
  • $18.10 per hour, $19.10 per hour for returning students
  • Competition Closes February 20, 2026

The position

This position will support the Stewardship team in the delivery of landowner services that promote environmental action to enhance water quality and ecosystem health. Work will involve a blend of hands-on private land stewardship as well as communications and administrative support, with a key focus on customer service.

Responsibilities include

Possess the knowledge and experience relevant to the responsibilities of the position; identify knowledge gaps and seek out professional development; engage in continuing education and professional networks that elevate your expertise; utilize your expertise in the key functions of your position; transfer knowledge to contribute to the success of others; enhance and advance your professional career. Apply your expertise in the following responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with landowners to encourage stewardship actions that improve water quality.
  • Develop and sustain partnerships that enhance program outcomes and the organization's community presence.
  • Support the delivery of special projects that benefit landowners, municipal partners and the local community with a particular focus on agricultural lands.
  • Support surface water monitoring at participating agricultural properties.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic social media and communications content.
  • Support the preparation of grant applications for current and future stewardship initiatives.
  • Participate in community outreach (including events, landowner site consultation, project verification reports).

Required Knowledge/Expertise/Skills

  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution in environmental sciences or similar programs.
  • Knowledge of conservation, restoration, and/or agricultural stewardship practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with landowners, community groups, and partners.
  • Skilled in writing and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in online tool and field equipment use, including databases, GPS, ArcGIS and/or other mapping software.
  • Familiarity with social media and content creation (i.e. Canva, or similar).
  • Demonstrated client services and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with native vegetation and species identification.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license within the Province of Ontario and held in good standing.
  • First aid certification an asset.

Conditions of employment

Prior to the start date, the successful candidate is required to complete a satisfactory drivers abstract and Canadian Criminal Record Check.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Applications must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom has refugee protection.
