Position: Seasonal Parks Labourer
Employer: Town of East Gwillimbury

Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, or delegate, the Seasonals responsibilities would include:

  • Operation of landscape / farm equipment such as utility vehicle, dump truck, snow blower.
  • Carrying out pre-trip inspections on all equipment, completing all required safety logs.
  • Operation of hand / power tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • General maintenance duties during the winter months involve snow blowing and hand-shoveling, salting/sanding at all Town facilities and parking lots and garbage and recycling collection at Town parks.
  • Inspection and maintenance of outdoor ice rinks.
  • General parks maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Adherence to all safety precautions and procedures required in the workplace in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation Temporary Conditions for Road Work and policies of the Corporation.
  • Must be physically capable of performing manual labour in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours which may include early mornings, evening and weekends.
  • Must be available to be on the rotating Parks Winter On-Call schedule.

Qualifications would include:

  • Grade 12 education preferred or equivalent.
  • Minimum Class ‘G’ drivers license with 3 years experience in good standing with Driver’s Abstract.
  • Access to vehicle.
  • Minimum 3 years previous experience in general landscape maintenance.
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written.
  • Possess ability to read, write and comprehend operation manuals, memos, letters, and equipment manuals.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety issues relevant to daily operations/equipment usage.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and as part of a team.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Proficient time management skills and flexibility in adjusting between varieties of duties.
  • Ability to deal courteously with staff and the public.

Hourly Rate: $30.52
