About the Opportunity

Are you passionate about the environment, care about your community, and want to develop your leadership potential? This is not your average part-time job.

As a Youth Program Assistant with Green Teams of Canada, you’ll play a key role in creating hands-on environmental change while inspiring others to connect with nature, take action, and build community. Whether you’re guiding community members through a native species planting, invasive blackberry removal or helping create inclusive outreach materials, you’ll be making a meaningful difference.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to gain practical leadership skills, environmental stewardship experience, and be part of a supportive and energetic team that values inclusion, connection, and impact.

You’ll spend much of your time outdoors leading stewardship activities, with some remote work possible (e.g., writing blog posts, sharing photos, social media outreach) depending on available funding.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Activity Support

  • Lead hands-on environmental activities (e.g., invasive plant removal, native planting, litter cleanups and more)
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and educational experience for all participants
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of participants of all ages, abilities & experience levels
  • Set up and pack up tools, tents, and materials; transport them when needed
  • Capture 50–150 high-quality photos and 2+ videos per activity to share our impact
  • Track volunteer numbers, environmental results, and site transformation
  • Write personalized thank-you letters for volunteers

Outreach & Communications

  • Promote activities to local schools, youth, and underrepresented groups
  • Support or lead outreach strategies that expand community participation
  • Create and schedule engaging content for social media and blog posts
  • Build an outreach database and help maintain our online community
  • Help attract positive media attention to the work we’re doing together

Administration

  • Accurately complete timesheets and expense reports
  • Participate in training and reflective learning
  • Contribute to pre- and post-activity planning and wrap-up

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You Are:

  • Energized by being outdoors and in community
  • Friendly, approachable, and comfortable leading group activities
  • Passionate about environmental action and social impact
  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (e.g., tools, tents)
  • Organized, reliable, and eager to take initiative
  • Open to feedback and excited to learn and grow
  • Committed to inclusivity and creating safe, welcoming spaces for all

Eligibility & Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be between the ages of 18–29 at the start of employment
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Live in or plan to relocate to either Greater Victoria or the Lower Mainland
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license, have access to a vehicle, and feel comfortable transporting tools and supplies
  • Be able to lift up to 50lbs (e.g. tools, tent, table etc.)
  • Be willing to complete a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check

Time Commitment & Schedule

This is a part-time contract role. Most work takes place in person and outdoors on weekends, with some weekday activities from September to April. Conducting outreach work from home can be scheduled flexibly (weekdays, weekends, or evenings).

How to Apply

Please send your resume and a 1-page cover letter to: jobs@greenteamscanada.ca

In your cover letter, include:

  • Which location you’re applying for (Greater Victoria or Lower Mainland)
