2025/2026 Algonquin Wilderness Tour Company

Position: Winter Wilderness Guide/Instructor - Outdoor Educator

Location: based out of our Algonquin Log Cabin and Outfitter at Algonquin Park Access Pt #1, east of South River, Ontario
Accom.: Shared accommodation available

Contract length: Winter season (Dec-March) or select contracts that fit with your schedule.
Terms: Per diem wage plus tips, shared accommodation

Voyageur Quest is a wilderness tour company specializing in Algonquin Park. Our facilities—the Algonquin Log Cabin, the Algonquin Cottages, Islands, and Voyageur Outfitter—are all located at Algonquin Park’s northwest corner around Access Pt #1.

ALGONQUIN WINTER WILDERNESS GUIDE – Outdoor Education

Voyageur Quest is looking for Algonquin Winter Wilderness Guides - Outdoor Educators and Winter Camping Specialists. The work includes guiding winter camping trips for both adult and student programs, such as Learn to Winter Camp, School programs and Duke of Edinburgh Winter Adventurous Journeys. Applicants should possess strong leadership, facilitation, and interpretive skills, and be comfortable speaking about Algonquin flora, fauna, night sky and local culture. Solid winter wilderness camping and winter travel skills with an emphasis on winter safety are essential. Our winter camping specialist will include creating and sleeping out in wood-heated wall tents or occasionally quinzhee snow structures located not far from our Log Cabin or Outfitter base. Winter Lodge-based guiding work is also available.

Applicants should have the following certifications, skills, and experience:

  • Ability to Snowshoe
  • Ability to Backcountry ski
  • Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or equivalent
  • Strong Nature and Wildlife interpretation
  • Ice Safety knowledge/certification
  • Love being outdoors in the winter
  • Strong guiding, leadership and experience with facilitation in a wilderness environment
  • Guide personal equipment, including snowshoes, backcountry skis, boots, poles, a wilderness first aid kit, and appropriate winter clothing. Rental of some equipment is possible.
  • Commercial hospitality experience (with serving meals, kitchen help, lodge welcomes, tidying) and a strong desire to optimize customer satisfaction
  • Clear and satisfactory criminal record check
  • A driver’s license and a car are assets for getting you to and from work on your days off.

Responsibilities

  • Lead groups of winter wilderness adventurers on outdoor excursions.
  • Provide guidance and instruction on winter skills.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during activities.
  • Utilize strong communication skills to interact with diverse groups.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities in decision-making and problem-solving situations.
  • Incorporate teaching methods to educate participants on environmental awareness and conservation practices.
  • Ability to host, guide and facilitate from our unique off-the-grid buildings, our wall tent set-ups, and to offer general operation support for the programs and infrastructure needs.

Contracts Available: Specific contracts available within the period of December 2025 to approx 3rd week in March 2026. You can also choose to work the full season and augment your work.

Salary: $190-240 per day (as per ESA, commensurate with certifications, experience and leadership) plus guest tips to staff directly.
Other: Shared accommodation available
