Overview

Impact Hub Ottawa is looking for an Executive Director (ED) to lead our team and community into the next chapter of growth and impact. This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of vision and action. Reporting to and working closely with the Board of Directors, the ED balances strategic vision with operational oversight, strengthening the organization’s role as a catalyst for collaboration, social innovation, community building, and impact.

The ED is the chief executive officer of Impact Hub Ottawa, responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership, ensuring effective governance, and overseeing the financial health and long-term sustainability of the organization.

The ED stewards partnerships and funding relationships, upholds accountability, and transparency, and positions Impact Hub Ottawa for continued growth and relevance in a rapidly evolving community and non-profit landscape.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your work will focus on five core areas:

Financial Accountability & Sustainability (25%)

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and monitoring, ensuring the sustainable use of resources.
  • Bookkeeping, financial controls, risk management, and reporting to the Board and funders.
  • Diversify revenue streams through fundraising, grant writing, membership models, partnerships, and earned income opportunities.
  • Ensure Impact Hub Ottawa remains financially resilient and future-focused.

Partnership Development & External Relations (25%)

  • Cultivate and steward strong relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders across sectors.
  • Represent Impact Hub Ottawa publicly as an ambassador and advocate for our mission.
  • Position the Hub as a trusted space for collaboration, social innovation, and impact within Ottawa’s community ecosystem.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand influence, partnerships, and programming.

Operational Oversight & Human Resources (20%)

  • Provide leadership for overall operations, ensuring systems, processes, and policies are effective, efficient, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Oversee facilities management, technology, and administrative, coordinator and volunteer functions.
  • Lead HR strategy, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, and staff development.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, organizational policies, and best practices.

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Development (20%)

  • Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Anticipate trends and external factors, adapting strategy to remain relevant and impactful.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, equity, and innovation within the staff team and broader community.
  • Mentor and empower staff to deliver on the mission while supporting their professional growth.

Governance (10%)

  • Support and collaborate with the Board of Directors, ensuring effective governance and decision-making.
  • Provide timely and transparent reporting, preparing materials for Board and committee meetings.
  • Ensure policies, practices, and operations comply with legal, ethical, and mission-driven standards.

Who We’re Looking For

  • 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in the non-profit, social innovation, or community sectors
  • Demonstrated success in governance, financial oversight, and organizational management
  • Experience motivating and supporting small teams during times of both transition and stability
  • A strong track record in partnership building, fundraising, and external relations
  • A strategic thinker with excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
  • Committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and meaningful community engagement
  • Known for sound judgment, political acuity, transparency, and accountability
