Organic farming, Veggie farming

Position: Organic farming - Field & market team member
Farm: Four Beat Farm

  • Location: Pemberton Meadows, near Whistler BC
  • Housing: No on-farm accommodation. We can connect employees with local contacts to assist in their search for a place to rent.

Do you enjoy fast-paced, outdoor work? Want to be part of a “growing” team and have a job that is rewarding and meaningful, surrounded by plants and awesome people?

THE FARM:

Four Beat Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm in the Pemberton Meadows in Lil’wat Territory. Started in 2016, the farm is all about “Quality food for everyday eating” and to provide a fulfilling life and livelihood for people growing it. We are looking for a motivated, hardworking individual to join our farm team for 2026 and beyond.

The farm has 4 acres in vegetable production, which is mostly field-grown row crops plus several high tunnels. We have a small tractor for lifting and mowing, and we make efficient use of hand tools and our team of Belgian draft horses for much of our fieldwork. We sell mostly through a 200+ member CSA plus local farmers markets.

Pemberton has a short and intense growing season with hot summer days and lots of mud, rain, bugs, and cold in the spring and fall. Working here requires a real appreciation for good food, being outdoors in all kinds of weather, moving quickly to make the most of the summer months, and celebrating the seasonal nature of farming.

THE TEAM

For 2026, there will be a core team of 4 full-time employees in addition to the farm owner, with extra hands during peak season. Every person on the team is critical to the farm’s success. You will be expected to hustle, to work independently, and to self-motivate to keep a healthy pace on the task at hand while looking out for yourself, your co-workers, and the farm’s operations as a whole.

Farming can be repetitive and it can be hard. A can-do attitude and sense of humour is crucial.

We are a tight and hardworking team that values clear communication, kindness, and commitment to an efficient, inclusive and drama-free workplace. Many of our staff choose to return and work with us year after year because of this, and you would be joining an incredible team of returning employees who share a passion for plants, people, food, and farming.

THE JOB

For the 2026 season, we are looking to fill 1 full-time, full-season Field Crew/Market Hand position.

As a member of the core farm team, this role involves

  • planting, seeding, weeding, irrigating, harvesting, washing, and packing many types of vegetables (3-4 days/week),
  • helping with CSA pickups and farmers markets (1-2 days/week).
  • additional duties may include driving the delivery vehicle, basic livestock care, and assisting with equipment/facility maintenance as needed

This is a great opportunity to get to see all parts of the growing cycle on a mixed vegetable farm, from putting seeds in the ground to connecting with the folks who are eating the food.

Prior farming experience is not required. A valid driver’s license is required for this role. Starting wage is $20-$23/hour depending on experience. If you have 2+ years of commercial vegetable farming or farmers market experience, additional responsibilities and a higher wage are possible.

Start/end is early May to mid-November, but there is flexibility on both ends for the right fit, and we encourage both students and part-time or shorter season applicants to apply.

HOURS/SCHEDULE

Full-time hours on our team is consistently 35-40 hours/week.

Hours are generally 7am-4pm Monday-Thursday for the whole team, plus a Sunday market day or Friday fieldwork shift (so everyone gets two consecutive days off). There is a daily break for lunch (30 minutes, unpaid) and a mid-morning break for tea (paid). We may start later in the spring/fall and earlier in the heat of summer, and we take care to adjust hours and scheduling based on the needs of the whole team.

For this role, Sunday to Thursday availability is expected as you would be helping with a Sunday farmers market.

We encourage employees to take a full week of vacation mid-summer, and to schedule time off as needed. There are occasionally opportunities for extra hours in peak season, but they are always optional and we take care to avoid burnout in our team. Our farm values consistency and reliability from both management and employees alike. We will work with your other work/play/life commitments and, in turn, we expect you to give 110% in the field.

JOINING THE TEAM

Along with an hourly wage and consistent work hours, employees have access to fresh farm-grow produce throughout the season (plenty of veggies to take home!). Full-time/full-season employees are also eligible for regular performance reviews, an annual health spending allowance, standard paid sick days, and a full week’s paid vacation mid-summer.

As an employer, we are committed to the ongoing skill development of our employees that is on par with their commitment to efficiency, workplace performance, and desire for growth within the farm and the industry. In your application, feel free to highlight your long-term career goals if applicable.
