About the farm

Do you love vegetables? We do too! Veghead Farm is a small mixed vegetable farm located in Manotick station, just outside of Ottawa. It’s our aim to bring super-fresh veggies grown with love to the people we serve through two farmers markets, an online store, and a CSA. We’re going into our fourth season and plan to grow on 1.5-2 acres this year. We are Certified Organic through Ecocert.

About the positions

Do you appreciate physical, outdoor work? Are you thrilled to work outside in ALL the weather? Are you able to squat, kneel, lift and carry repetitively and enjoy it? Are local, small-scale farms important to you? If so, read on!

We are looking for two people to work in a full-time capacity (35-40 hours/week), and one person to work in a part time capacity (6-20 hours/week) on the farm this season.

• For the full-time positions there are two work week schedules available: Monday-Friday, and Tuesday-Saturday.

  • It is possible to split a full-time position into a couple of part-time positions if desired.

• For the part-time position, days are flexible, but you would need to be available on Thursday and/or Friday as those are our main harvest days.

In the spring our work is focused on seeding in the field and greenhouse, bed prep, transplanting, weed control and groundskeeping

As we move into summer we continue to seed, transplant, and groundskeep, but the focus shifts more to harvesting, washing, and packing, along with continued emphasis on weed control.

Fall is harvest time, clean up time, and time to do our final plantings for overwintering.

We will be a 1-5 person team, depending on the day. There will be times you will work in a team and times you will be working alone. It is an asset to be able to enjoy both types of situations.

To do this work it’s helpful to:

• Be punctual and reliable
• Be hard working
• Have strong observational skills
• Have quick hands
• Be able to work both independently and as part of a team
• Communicate well
• Remain positive and focused in the face of monotony or bad weather
• Be curious

Must-haves

• Must be able to speak, read and write in English
• Must have own transportation to the farm. No public transit is available. No on-site housing available

Start Date: Mid April 2026. Start date is dependent on the weather. A warm, dry spring means we get started earlier than a snowy, cold, wet spring. Start date can be flexible if you need to finish college or university studies for the year.

End Date: Mid-End of October 2026

Compensation: $19.50/hr, access to farm produce, access to our farm library

Hours: Let me know what works for you, the start and end times can be flexible. Ideally you start sometime between 7-10am and finish between 3-5pm. Start times on the earlier side of the 7-10am window are preferred during the summer so we can get more of our work done in the cooler part of the day.

• Earlier hours are available during heatwaves.
• 7am start time is preferred on Fridays during the late spring and summer to ensure as much produce as possible is harvested before the heat of the day.
