Position: Interim Executive Director

We are looking for an inspired and motivated Interim Executive Director to build strong community relationships, managing fundraising opportunities, achieving strategic planning goals, and guiding program delivery.

Reporting to the Stewardship Pemberton Society Board of Directors, the ED’s primary functions include fundraising, developing and deepening key partnerships, leading long and short term strategic and operational planning, overseeing the care of the One Mile Lake Nature Centre, financial responsibility, and employee and contractor management.

  • Schedule: 20 hours/week, year-round, with flexible hours.
  • Location: This role involves a combination of remote office-based work and community based activities around Pemberton.
  • Compensation: $35-37.50 based on experience.
  • Contract term: April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.

Stewardship Pemberton Society is a 20 year-old non-profit charity that is dedicated to stewarding the local environment, food system, and community.

We are looking for an inspired and motivated Interim Executive Director (IED) integral to building strong community relationships, managing fundraising opportunities, achieving strategic planning goals, and guiding program delivery. Reporting to the Stewardship Pemberton Society Board of Directors, the ED’s primary functions include fundraising, developing and deepening key partnerships, leading long and short term strategic and operational planning, overseeing the care of the One Mile Lake Nature Centre, financial responsibility, and contractor management. The candidate must be able to play a variety of roles: coach, strategist, observer, researcher, facilitator, administrator, cheerleader and critical friend. People skills necessary.

  • Understanding of governance, finance, and regulations within nonprofits is essential.
  • This is an interim part-time position(20 hrs/wk) from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
  • Pay Range $35-$37.50/hr based on experience.

Job Description

The part-time Interim Executive Director (IED) reports to the SPS Board of Directors The IED is expected to run the day-to-day operations and be the embodiment of the Stewardship Pemberton Society. They should be able to articulate our vision, build alignment across the organization, embrace ambiguity and serve as the chief of “enthusiasm and optimism.” They will oversee contract professionals that support SPS operations, such as our bookkeeper and nature centre maintenance manager. They will also support and oversee the Feasting For Change Manager and Environmental Coordinator staff members, with background support for Feasting For Change
Coordinator and Youth Assistant staff members. They will support and oversee volunteer environmental project leads.

Expectations

1. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND FUNDRAISING
● Development of funding applications, sourcing donations, and building financial partnerships.
● Positively and professionally represent Stewardship Pemberton Society. Build and maintain strong relationships with communities, regions, sponsors, funders, and partners.
● Oversee external communication initiatives including press releases, social media, and as an official spokesperson.
● Work with education and community partners to further SPS’s mandate.

2. STRATEGIC PLANNING AND PROGRAM DELIVERY
● Implement the goals outlined in the strategic plan 2023-2025 to achieve the vision of SPS.
● Guide operational planning of key deliverables including program delivery, communication, fundraising, and financial management.

3. TEAM AND BOARD LEADERSHIP
● Support teams by ensuring appropriate professional development, guidance, tools, and training are available.
● Create team and contractor workplans.
● Foster a positive leadership model to create an open, collaborative, and positive organizational culture.
● Lead regular internal communication ensuring a cohesive organization exists between the board, the ED, and contractors.
● Ensure that the procedures and policies approved by the board operate in compliance with regulations for the operation of non-profit and charitable organizations.

4. OPERATIONS AND FINANCE
● Prepare budgets, monitor revenue, and expenditures and ensure adherence to approved budgets, with support from a professional bookkeeper.
● Manage a cost-effective system of purchasing, billing and accounting within approved annual operating budgets.
● Provide quarterly financial reports to the Board.
● Negotiate and manage contracts, program agreement, insurance coverage, and general administration duties.
● Maintain and oversee operations of the One Mile Lake Nature Centre and operating systems.
● Maintain good standing through all regulatory compliance as a registered Canadian Charity (CRA) as well as the BC Registrar (Society’s Act).

● Experience and understanding of the dynamic of leading and managing a diverse group: Board, staff, partners, agencies, funders, donors etc.
